ive been playing on the Tribunal server for a while now i recently made a WAR toon named MEATSHIELD and played him up to 33 well i get a tell one day from "annonuser1" that says " hey you stole my name" i reply “?" and then he says " can you delete your toon so i can log in my toon" after i stopped laughing i put him on ignore. Is it possible to create a toon with the same name as someone else? I mean was there any bugs like this?

This is the first I've heard of something like this.

You can have two charaters on two different servers with the same name though.

Having somebody tell you to delete your character so they can log in their character is baffling though. Sounds to me like somebody was either pulling your leg or didn't know what they were talking about.

On my server, there is another toon with the same surname as mine. So, I know that can happen, but I've never heard of two toons with the same given name.

This may have actually been possible. I beleive SOE reactiavted all of the inactive accounts for their 5th anniversary so maybe it went like this:

AnonUser1 created Meatsheild and then cancelled his account.

You created Meatsheild in the interim

AnonUser1 decided to come back and his toons were reactivated during the celebration period.

Sounds plausable to me.

nope even with cancelled accounts the names of all the toons stay in the name database server.

reason i know this is simple. i cancled an account ages back, then on a friends i went to make a toon with the same name i had used on that cancled account and count not. that name is already taken type error.

so no its not possible, and that nut just wanted your name. its a popular name on many servers.

Spelling? Maybe the guy named his toon Meatsheild (notice the placement on the i & e).

Anyway, it is very possible to have names one letter off but not exact. Example: Thorric's younger brother, Thorrin is a warrior. :)

That would be the perfect response.

Perhaps he saw your name and thought "Oh man, I want that name!" and tried to trick you into giving it up. I guess weirder fibs have been told.

Of course the first thing that pops into my head about that guy, on reading your story (assuming it's true) is "what a nut."

yeah the 1 or 2 letter thing i did with several of my toons.

main = mallabar nec DE
alt = maillabar wiz DE
alt = maillabbarr mage DE

last name on main = Ma'Cardain, yes had a GM add the ' to the name.

when maillabar (the wiz) hit 20th i did same thing with his name. this was a RP thing all 3 are brothers. so made for simple naming policy for me and my guild knew my alts.

Is MeatShield a known joke around the EQ world or something? I had a friend from my old job that created a character called MeatShield on my text based game and he was a big EQ player. Its either a common thing, huge coincidence, or one of you 2 is actually him.

Meatshield = Tank class i.e Warrior, Pally or Shadowknight.

since they shield the group from damage with thier meaty frames.

As far as having 2 names on the same server I know it is possible, but what happens is that EQ will automatically place an x at the end of the duplicate chars name and then a GM would change it after being petitioned. I remember seeing that as part of the training literature to become a guide, though I have never saw it myself. Sounds like the guy was just trying to get you to delete your account. Its ashame how low some people go for a laugh.

I had an enchanter once with the name celarity. One day a GM came and told me I had to change my name because there is a spell with that name. Kind of pissed me off.

well, if you'd say that to my stunning female human paladin, I think I would reply "/em petitions to file a sexual harrasment suit.

but, with my female Ogre warrior, thats a different story... once somebody send me a tell for grouping, and when he finally saw me he only said "wow, you are ugly!" so... /em pulls Tarvs head to her meaty bosom Smiley: grin

back to the thread: yes, I believe it is as Singdall put it:

there must be a one to one correllation between account and alias. once in a while they (SOE) might be purging data, but after deleting data they would not be able to uncancel them purged accounts ---> so they don't do it Smiley: twocents

Actually i know that when They opened up new servers lets say some peoplemoved to that server 1 person would have an Asterick next to there name stating that both having the same first name and at this point somone whould have to basically get a GM to change it. But thats with the toon moving from server to server.
