I have a few questions first.

I actually started playin EQ shortly after it's release and had all the expansions up to and including Luclin.
I could not run Luclin due to the crappy computer (have a nice system now that can run all of them easily) that I had at that time so I have no idea what this expansion is like other than it offered new character models, horses and AA points if I'm not mistaken .... please correct me if I am wrong.

Now that I have bored you all to death I will move on to my questions.

Of the expansions that came out after Luclin, which ones do I not need to worry about buying until I level a toon high enough to explore them?

Which of the servers would be best for me to start off on?
I'm not into RP or PvP so I would not want to play on those type servers.

Which class or classes do you think would be best for soloing?
Don't have enough time to be online for hours on end.
If I remember correctly mages and necros were very well suited for this role.

Well I guess that's about it for now.

Ykesha - a few nice zones, esp. starting mid 30's, new race, etc.

PoP - Awesome zone for travel, access to a number of planer xp
areas, excellent expansion.

LDoN - Instanced dungeon's and great equipment/augments avaliable
by simply accumulating points in these instanced
dungeons.

GoD - More or less useless to anyone not in a high-end raiding
guild.

Welcome back. I too was an old schooler who left and came back (twice...doh!)

Expansions that you should get: Planes of Power is almost a must. They added many planes zones, including one called Plane of Knowledge (it is PoK in game). Most city zones have a book on a pedastal positioned in their nearby newbie zone and if you click on the book you go to PoK...likewise you can go to different stones in PoK and click and got o that zone. So in effect it is like a big travel hub. When getting groups and buying services or goods, it is almost essential.

Once you hit 20 you can go on adventures in Lost Dngeons of Norrath. This is a very unique expansion...it adds the ability to go into instanced zones with a pre-defined group. You get a group of 4 or more and actually request an adventure from an NPC...Once you have it you run to the entrance of that zone and go in..you then have 90 minutes to compelte the task in front of you. Your group is the only group in the dungeon and the creatures do not re-pop. There are also many items and spells that you can only get with this expansion. Good XP and good fun.

Yakesha adds the froggies and the Gunthak and beyond priate zones. Also adds the ability to dye your armor and to purchase Drogmors...big ridable lizards. The zones are for the mid-30s and up so would not hurt to wait a bit for this one...if I missed anything, let me know. If you want to paly a froggie you have to have this one.

Gates of Discord zones are for 50 lvl and up. There is some good loot associated as well...but the primary addition is the Berzerker class addition. This is the expansion you could save for last.

If I were you I would buy in this order Planes of Power now, Yekesha if you want to start a froggie now, otherwise wait until you hit mid-30s, Lost Dungeons when you hit 20, Gates of Discord when you hit upper 40s. That is the way I would do it.

As for the server...that is easy Erollisi Marr!

In my opinion the best solo class is the Necro followed by Druid and Bard. Necros and Bards also have no trouble finding groups. I have some druid friends who say getting groups at higher levels is harder but do not know first hand.

Might want to mention that the Ykesha expansion also adds a map function which is very nice. Worthy of buying the expansion for this feature alone IMO. If I'm not mistaking, the Ykesha expansion also adds the expanded bank slots as well as the shared bank slots.

Thanks for all the great info.
So if I'm not mistaken buying EQ evolutions will give me everything I need with the exception of GOD and LDON, and LDON is the one I should invest in fro level 20 and up.

See you guys in game

One more thing I forgot to ask about.
lhuffman, you mentioned that you thought Erollisi Marr was the best server to start out on.
Was that just personal preference or is that one of the newer servers?
I really don't want to start on a server that is dominated by a lot of high level players and guilds and one where the economy is all out of whack.
What server(s) do you guys suggest to avoid this?

Thanks for the help.

By the way I got EQ: Evolutions installed but have not yet begun to play until I figure out what server(s) I want Characters on.
Used to play the high end game on the Rathe in one of the bigger Raiding guilds .... Tindi Losi

Morden Rasp is the newest Server and hence has the lowest high level population. Sadly, this creates a bad economy as everyone is selling very high atm. but starting out now you at least have the option of doing the newb armor quests that will give you some initial gear with stats. I would say it would be best to start on Morden Rasp as that will give you some people to group with at the low to mid level range, whereas, you wouldn't be able to find those level ranges on the older servers.

Note - LDoN is only useful if you can play in blocks of time (correct me if I'm a bit off here people) at least 90 minutes. This is so you can get together with another group of people and go through one of the dungeons together. If a group member has to leave early, it's not looked upon in a favorable light by the remaining members.

I am "time challenged" and can usually play only in blocks of 1/2 hour, so I have not yet purchased LDoN.

Now that I think about it any of the newer servers will have screwed up economy due to the over priced items as where and older server would be better for buying gear, since most prices would be around the same range for a particular item.
