Ha! Gamma World! I used to play one of those blob dudes.. hehe. My buddy played a monkey-man.
PnP Goodness:
(1)
AD&D 1st Ed. -- Insanely overpowered monks and barbarians, worthless acrobats and paladins with 18's in charisma! Fun! I always felt that 2nd ed. took away part of the "player initiative"; instead of roleplaying your ranger as a scout and picking weapons and proficencies (from the various
Survival guides) suited to the task, you just picked the "Scout" template pre-made out of the book. Yippee
(2)
Twilight: 2000 -- A frighteningly realistic look at how the world ends and leaves you and your fellow soldiers trapped and abandoned in Soviet Bloc Eastern Europe. Deal with radiation poisoning, dwindling ammunition supplies, rogue partisans and alcohol fueled APCs as you try to make your way from Warsaw to the United States. Plus it had a table for how many fish you could kill by throwing a fragmentation grenade into a lake!
(3)
Wraith: the Oblivion -- ******* child of the White Wolf "World of Darkness" series (well, sharing that title with
Changling, really), Wraith chronicaled your character's death, existance as a ghost and struggle against the constant forces of nihilism as your shadow constantly whispered sweet nothings into your ear to urge you into the Void. In my opinion, the most emotional of the series, plus it has the advantage of fewer real life neo-goths dressed in trenchcoats and pretending to be vampires.
(4)
Bunnies & Burrows --
Watership Down inspired mayham! Pick from various rabbit combat techniques! Dig burrows! Notice you have no hands! Get eaten by a badger! What's not to love?
(5)
Metamorphosis: Alpha -- Awaken from a deep sleep in a strange world. Explore and discover that your world is, in fact, a starship headed to places unknown. Unravel the mysteries of-- ok, I admit it. I just loved the character creation and making bright blue, three armed mutants with pink stripes, webbed toes and eyes on stalks.
