Well I have yet to purchase Everquest but am going to do so in about a few weeks. In the mean time have have been looking for a class. I have looked thourgh most of them and Decided I would like to be able to Tank well and give out good damage. I also like being able to wear bulky armour like platemail and such. Since I do not have the game i am unsure what classes that can cast spells and wear such armour. I was looking into a shaman because I saw that they were able to cast a good amount of good spells and it says in the desc that it is possible for them to be tanks...I was wondering if they were able to wear platemail and such? Well reply and let me know what you think the best class is for me. Thx alot

Shaman are not tanks, they are buffmeisters. Try a Paladin or Shadowknight Smiley: smile

Aye, Im also thinking of making another char, running across the same problem. Necros look too fun for words, but they're deffinetley hands off, no heavy armour and such. ShadowKnights are awesome at higher levels, but can be a pain getting there. While you can be a GOD in a group, you will probably never be able to solo. Thats all I know for now, try casters reamlm: http://eq.crgaming.com/menu/creation.asp

I would highly recommend you don't get attached to your first character. EQ is very different from most RPGs in their class design and purpose. I went through several classes before I found the Shaman and loved him. You should start the game with the intention of learning how and why things work and then choose what role in that system you like to play. Just reading about the classes doesn't give you the feel of how they really fit into the mix.

I would recommend you start with a Barbarian or Vah Shir Shaman to get the feel of the game. It's an easy class to get a feel for and their versatility will give you a good example of how everything works. Barbs and kitties are both good races and get along well in most cities. Evil races are a little harder to play and not the best choice for a first character but can be loads of fun later on.

Nothing wrong with evil characters.. All of mine except 2 are evil. Before Plains of Power, it used to be a hassel being evil because you were KOS in most cities, but with the books to get around, it's now very easy to play an evil toon. If you're looing at a shaman, consider a troll or orge. Granted they don't start with much smarts, but a troll has natural HP regen. Ogres can't be stunned from the front, which means at higher levels when you're responsible for slowing mobs, it's nice to know you're not going to experience a quick death when they summon you. Troll regen helps you get HP back when your casting Cannibalize to regen your mana. My shaman is a troll and I am quite happy with him.

I also have a ShadowKnight -- An Ogre. He makes a wonderful tank and is not that hard to solo. Darkness/Fear works pretty well, but I usually need a healer around to keep the downtime to a minimum. Feign Death is also quite helpful when your pulling and you get more mobs than you want.

Since I 2 box (play on 2 computers at the same time on 2 accounts), it's fun to play different classes to see what they can do. My mains are a necro and a druid, which I think were like the 4th or 5th chars I created.

Also, Casters take much more skill to play than melee types. You have you know your character's capabilities. There is a fine line between doing massive damage by nuking mobs and doing steady damage without drawing agro away from the tanks.

Descarte Meditations Dark Elf Arch Lich - (Necro)
Cait Packleader Halfling Storm Warden - (Druid)

Helli Duno Lvl 58 Troll Shaman

There really aren't any tanks that can solo well high end game. Beastlord maybe but they don't wear plate armor. I'd guess any class with time armor can solo pretty decently, but I am not in a guild right now and don't have the flags needed to go there.
