Question on Temp StackingFollow

Last night I joined a group, chanter hadn't arrived yet, but we wanted to start pulling. I cast Blessing of Temperance on the 5 of us and we started. About 15 minutes later the chanter arrived and I casted a single Temp on him. 30 or 40 minutes later one of the melees had to leave but said they would be back later. Group goes on....... Time for me to go. The leader finds a replacement cleric and I agree to stay until he arrives. Other melee returns and takes the place of a different leaving player. 15 minutes later my Temp wears off. I say gather round for new Temp and both chanter and the melee say that's ok I'm still good. I resist the urge to say click off it cause I'm not going to just freshen yours when it fades and just cast it anyway. I figure I'm about to leave what do I care. I guess they were both in range, because I got the xxx is surrounded by an aura of temperance for both players. So my question (finally) is:

In this situation did both of said charecters have their Temp refreshed, or was the spell effect message just meaningless spam? I looked under the description here on Alla's and it says

1: Stacking: Block new spell if slot 3 is effect 'Max Hitpoints' and < 1100

Since Temp is an 800 plus hps It seems to me that the old wouldn't block the new, but I'ld like to make sure. That way in the future I can say go ahead and click it off for a new one with confidence.

If you/they get that spell message, then their buff was refreshed. A group vs. single buff of the same spell by the same caster should always overwrite/refresh itself. To the best of my knowledge, at least.

Aye. That's my understanding as well. Either group or single will overwrite the other (and "refresh" it).

As a rule of thumb, if you get the message saying the spell landed on someone, then that person has a "new" copy of the spell on them, with a new duration starting from the time at which the spell landed.

I'm thinking the buff was refreshed. But each toon had different circunstances and I haven't been able to find a yes or no answer on the web.

Chanter = Individual Temp, used for about 1hr 15min.
SK = Group Temp, logged and came back. Used buff for about 45min.

I'ld just like to clear this up in my own mind.

PS. I didn't think to ask if they got the message Smiley: bah

It doesn't matter what buff they had on previously, or how long they had it on.

At the moment you cast the group temp spell, everyone in the group got a "new" version of that spell. It will last the entire duration it would normally last from that point. Everything else is irrelevant.

You don't need to ask if they got a message. When you cast a spell (even a group buff), *you* will see a message that goes something like this:

joe is enveloped in a warm glow
frank is enveloped in a warm glow

You failed to affect your target
anna is enveloped in a warm glow
harry is enveloped in a warm glow

Color may vary, but that's more or less what you'll see. As long as you get no red "you failed..." messages, then everyone got your spell.

Note that when casting a single version of the spell, it'll say something like:

maria is protected from your spell

I suppose that makes it easier to figure out who it didn't stick on, but since you only get that information when using a single target cast, it's kinda pointless. One of the many annoying message features of the game IMO.
