I'm looking around to buy a new LCD monitor that works well with EQ that is 19" or 20" screen. Could anyone that owns any pls give me some feedback about their LCD monitor, how well it works with EQ and other games, and what its make and model is. Thx! :D

Anyone else got any other recommendations on this subject? My boyfriend just offered to split the cost of a LCD monitor with me. YAY! I have been looking at reviews for some, but they all look like they would be outdated by now. I know that there have to be more of you out there with flat panels - how are they holding up graphically? Any ghosting/tracer issues? Is it good with both games and DVD's? All reviews are greatly appreciated.

Mine's not a LCD it's a Dell 19 in 1901 FP digital and I just love it. Works great with EQ but there is some smearing of characters when you move around. Not bad and you get use to it in no time.

Why does everyone want LCD monitors, is it simply because they look cool? I look at lots of people who have bought them, and in the location that they have put them, they could have easily have just put a CRT in place with no problems. Why spend the extra money if you don't have to, sink it into ram, a new hard drive, or a new video card. Just something to think about. You can buy one hell of a nice CRT monitor for half the price.

Because normal CRTs are heavy, take up a lot of desk space, get very hot, waste enery, are suspect to burnin, lose focus and have a relativly short lifespan compared to most LCD monitors. That would be my reasoning anyway.

LCD monitors are good in my opinion for the average PC user. However, if you play a lot of video games (which I do), the max vertical sync of most (if not all since i have never seen one) lcd monitors is 75Hz. If you play games with vsync on the max frame rate you will get is 75 fps... That sucks in my opinion. I like my good old CRT with 120 vertical refresh rate. Makes it MUCH easier on the eyes when staring at a screen for hours on end. If you don't use vsync you are crazy..... Just my 2 cents. I guess since EQ frame rates don't get too high anyway it doesn't really matter, but I play more counterstrike where framerate == god.

Go to you're local magazine shop and pick up a copy of Maximum PC. They have a nice write up on LCD's for gamers... overall they still suck compared to LCD's, but there are a few out that they recommend.

If you're a real hardcore gamer, you need a CRT and will suffer in frag matches with an LCD. I use a CRT for my primary computer, but 2-box and have an LCD on my secondary computer as a CRT is too big and heavy.

Didn't know LCDs were behind CRTs in any way.
I think LCDs are great if you gotta look at something all day.
The flatness of the screen reduces glare, the lighting isn't loud on the eyes, and they are sharply focused.
Micron has been using LCDs in their factory for 10+ years and what's interesting is that they've never had to be replaced, they still work great. The LCD fluid needs to be replaced every 5 years or so.
So, LCDs are a great long term investment. I find that I replace my CRTs every few years (usually 2-3 years max use.)
I have heard about stuck pixels - but I'd rather have that than a CTR that increases the temperature of my room. CRTs really do put out a ton of heat, and 19" monitors barely fit on a desk after you put the keyboard infront of them. They are humongous, compromising one's ability to be ergonomic.
