Ding 15 last night and had 103 bone chips I'd collected. So I thought I was big and ugly enough to venture to the Bazzar to see if I could sell them. Didn't know if anyone would want them but thought it a good excuse to go somewhere new. (Watch out niph, another rescue required lol, DOH!)

So off I trots. Thanks to everyone who helped me while I was there, I think I got it in the end, but does anyone have any advice, tips, suggestions or stories relating to the Bazzar?

I set myself up to trade my chips, parked myself up, went to clean my teeth, and when I'd come back the screen was black. Don't know what happened but after trying a few things I resorted to typing /sit, /camp. It seemed to work because although the screen stayed black, the theme tune soon piped up. At that point I had to shut down with Ctrl, alt and Delete. Didn't know what else to do! So I'm not sure if I sold any chips in that brief half hour or not yet as I've not logged back in.

Hmmmm.

Think my pc is too slow anyway, cos it's very jerky there. 520 people in the bazaar, is this normal? Guess so. Turned my clip plane thingy to zero and faced a wall most of the time, but when i heard some dodgy giggling I thought I may be being robbed so had to turn and look round. That took nearly a minute!!!!

Anyway, main question I suppose is how do you trade? Do you normally set yourself up and then leave your pc on while you go out/ go to bed/ got to work or whatever and see what happens?

Any bazzar stories/info most welcome.

Thanks,

Lance

Apologies - Long post, but that's one thing EQ teaches, improved typing.....but not spelig. lol

Even with the latest patches the bazaar is still very laggy. Your best bet is turn your clip pane down (shift + or - on the keyboard not number pad), and look at the ground where ever possible.

Generally I personally set myself up in trader when I have a few hours I can walk away or overnight. I'll just swap out my satchells, check my prices, hit afk and go away.

Jsut, for the record you will find a bazaar log in your everquest directory (probably in the log subdirectory) if you should crash and want to know what happened, or even if you want to look back at your previous history - can be quite useful.

Edit: oops left the f out of shift ../slap

Well, usually when I hit the Bazaar wanting to sell Spiderling Silks or some loot, It is usually the last thing that I do. When I feel like I want to go to bed, or if I have to go to school, I go into trader mode and go AFK. If I get disconnected, oh well. But if I don't, I get to make money while sleeping. :)

Also, you probably already know this stuff, but here is goes. To start trading, go to the central merchant building in the Bazaar and buy Trader's Satchel from the guy to your right when you enter the building (not sure if it is the top or bottom entrance, though). They are around 1pp. After you buy one, put what you want to sell in it it and go to one of the trader stall things and type '/trader'. It will bring up a Bazaar Vendor window. On the right there is the items you placed in the Satchel. Click on the first item. On the bottom of the window there is a money thing similar to the one in your inventory. Set these to the price you want that item to be priced at PER ITEM. Then press the 'Set Price' button. In the text box in the window, text should appear saying something about the price of the item being updated to the price you set it to. Repeat this for all of your items. Now go AFK and sleep, go to work, ETC.

Well first of all with 500+ traders Bazaar can be THE most terribly lagged place imaginable.

Try to work with the 2D view (from above your head) as soon as you enter the nexus, get your toon in the center of the screen and get the "camera" up a bit so you can still see a 5-10m radius around. This way you will be able to travel around in the bazaar (with the aid of the map) and also follow the "mystical path" if you use the /find function for other traders without getting stuck too often. I know it sucks by the sound of it but it works best that way.

Generally traders are able to work unattended, that means once you fixed your prices (and politely turned AFK) you may go to sleep and count money next morning. Your toon will tell prices like a vendor for each item the customer clicks upon but you cant see that kind of messages yourself so dont worry if someone stands motionless in front of you for a couple of minutes - actually you are talking to him.

If you change prices be sure to click the "set price" button afterwards, otherwise the price will retain to the original staus once you get out of trader mode and back in because an UI file (in your EQ directory) saves every price you set and therefore "resets" every price which is changed but not saved while in trader mode.

If you offer something like in the "real" market don't use /shout but /auction. If you auction something (to link an item you want to auction alt+leftmouseclick in the trader window and then repeat on the items pic in the description window) and don't tell prices people will negotiate with you, you can tell prices or add "check my prices in trader" to avoid that.

Weight reducing bags are reverted to tokens by the Barbie lady (and vice versa of course)left from the main buildings south entrance because containers can (of course) not be stored in trader satchels but these tokens offer no description about the bag itself if you click it in the bazaar window or even on an other trader.

Use /shout to ask for information on these bags or for proc levels (and the like).

Further you don't use up food or drink while in trader because no one could offer stat food otherwise so theres no need to include this once you use the full 8 slots for satchels.

hope I wrote that understandable enough and didn't mess anything up....

PS: If you offer only bonechips you will have a hard time earning some cash overnight because on every server people offer these as low as 5g a piece sometimes and the anniversary skeleton army made prices drop even further sometimes.

Another point of note is that some people will jack with Ye of thee slow computer when the bazaar gets full. They'll cast mod rods and fireworks and everything imaginable to get someone to go LD so they can take their spot. Like egnaro said, just look down and turn the clip plane down to zero. If that still doesn't help strip your settings down to atari level. Turn the names off, models off..etc. Of course that's only if you have the patience to do that, which I would not have.

Just to tie up a couple of loose ends:

Once you have updated/set prices and are ready to offer your wares to the citizens of Norrath, hit the "Begin Trader" button to actually enter trader mode. It should say something like "You are offering the following items for purchase" and will list the contents of your trader satchels. As mentioned earlier you will need to be standing under the awning (called the "stall" area). Anywhere is fine, just be polite and don't set up right in front of someone, especially if you are a large race.

And bad framerates are the norm in bazaar. I just bought a nice new gaming rig that runs like a champ everywhere else at full detail, but I get bad framerates in Bazaar. So it isn't just you :).

Also you can include a custom /afk message when you are asleep by just typing the message after the /afk line. So if I wanted folks to see "I'm away at work" rather than the default AFK message when they sent me a tell, I would type:

/afk I'm away at work

This is handy in bazaar because often folks might not want to pay straight cash for an item, but would like to trade an item or three for your item. I don't accept trades (with rare exception), so to let them know while I am AFK I put:

/afk Asleep, and I'm sorry but I don't accept trades

This lets them know politely that you aren't interested in trading items so they can proceed to the next seller and try to negotiate a deal. The AFK message also lets them know specifically what you are doing, so they don't spam you with tells hoping that you just stepped away for a quick bite.

I personally save shout for only the most dire of emergencies (train to zone and the like), and recommend the use of the /ooc channel to ask for information. Yes, it appears the same color as the /auction channel to most users, but its very rare that a question asked in /ooc goes unanswered, and those are usually extraordinarily obscure questions that the folks in the zone just can't answer. It's not a HUGE deal to me, but it can be to some folks, and it's probably best to get into the habit of using /ooc for all general info requests/comments, and saving /shout for when you are really in trouble or need to warn others of same.

And I agree that the bazaar log record is QUITE handy if the server goes down while you were asleep and you want to find out how much cash you pulled in while in dreamland. Every bazaar transaction you have ever made is in there (sales at least, not sure about purchases). Just be aware that there will be two bazaar (or BZR) related files in your EQ directory. One will be an .ini file that contains all your pricing info, and the other will be a .log file (I think, maybe .txt?) that has your transactions in it.

Excellent info so far in this thread, hope I was able to add to that.

Beside you and egnaro mentioning that I'd never heard of it. That's a GREAT thing to know as I've been kicked out of the bazaar many times at night and wanted a way to check what happened.

another thing is -- most folks, myself incuded...have bazaar mules. i only have 3 chars...oops forgot the druid...4 chars that i play on a regular basis, so i have an empty slot for the "mule" -- since i frequently have lots of stuff to unload (i do lots of crafting and sometimes you come across a nifty deal...ie a weapon that i bought for 50p & resold for 500), i don't have the bank space on any of my true toons to store trader items. with the shared bank slot, it helps alot. i pull out my big sekksah ogah and she does the deals for me while i work or sleep. then i xfer the cash she makes to the shared slot and pick it up later on someone else. 8)

Thanks all, some really good info here.

Tarkanons post, though basic to some, is exactly what I need. This sort of stuff just isn't in the manual.

Thanks again.

Now, where did he say that log file was?

/pokes tongue out side of mouth and scratches head.

I'll find it. lol

you get a logfile for every toon on every server on your account that ever went into trader mode so to identify it properly the file is named:

bzrlog_servername_toonsname.txt

....and I just realized that my log is some weeks old whereas my UI-file is as actual as it should be-----> anyone else encountered his log not being up to date?

You, find they created a new subdirectory for your log files in the last patch.

c:\whateveryoureqdirectoryis\Logs

Bazaar and general logs are both in here now
