Okay, just out of curiosity, I'd like to see people's opinion on the best class combination in the game for duoing. For the sake of simplicity(and in the hopes of preventing this from becoming an AA ability thread), let's say low 50's. Any thoughts?

Or have you absolutely no idea what you would team up yourself?

I am an avid fan of responses where the respondee shares their opinion. Maybe the OP doesn't have an opinion, they may be after advice since they intend to start a character with a friend and they intend to duo into the 50s.

That being said, being a Paladin I am biased. My favourite duo partner is the Shaman, for slows, haste, healing, a buff line that stacks with mine, and dots since as my dps is crappy the mobs are up long enough for a dot to last to completion.

2 shammies with JBB's can kill just about anything if you are going for pure power..... However for fun and interest at low-mid 50's i would go for shammy / Shadowknight.

Shammies can heal ok, slow, haste, buff and Canni dance to maintain it.

Sk's can snare, hold aggro as well as any class in the game, Pet pull, and fear.

No, I have several ideas from personal experience as to what are good duos. I was TRYING to get people's personal opinions just out of curiosity. I didn't want this thread to be an attack or defense on any paticular combination, THAT'S why I didn't post my opinion on it.

Personally, I think the best combination to duo is beastlord/druid. With the beastlord's slows, buffs and pet as a tank, the druid's snare, healing and ability to grab a second pet for better DPS, you've got a complete group with just 2 players.

However...I'm NOT thinking of making a beastlord to duo with my druid, and I'm not looking for people to pick apart or even defend my opinion. I was curious as to other's opinion. That's why I didn't give mine in my original post.

Oh, and thank you Tarv and Patrician, THOSE are the posts I was looking for when I started this threadSmiley: smile

Have a RL friend I play with and have tried several duo's. Enchanter/Mage was fun and I here get very powerful later in game but alas my Enchanter got sidelined in the 40's. We currently duo his 61 Mage and my 59 Shaman. So far we are both very impressed with the results....his toys actually make dog dog a bigger speed bump then normal.

the best duo for this game may well be Jophiel and Patrician.
I used to be enamored of Smasharoo and Gbaji.
Kaolin is a soloer and rules.

On second thought, when they do post the best duo is Samira and Calimir/Tehom.
edited to correct spellings. Hope I got it right this time.

I've done a lot of duo combinations. For the low 50s, for a druid, the best partner would be one who doesn't need a lot of healing or who can help out with their own heals.

Druid/enchanter make a powerful charm duo. Druid/mage can do some mad aggro kiting with the pet providing much of the dps. Druid/paladin make more of a traditional healer/tank duo. I've also teamed up with another druid and with a wizard for some crazy kiting fun.

For other classes I've played around with in those levels, shaman/monk and shaman/ranger are two of my favorites. Shamans add so much to a two-person group, they can partner with just about anyone. Same could be said for bards, I suppose, and to a lesser extent beastlords.

I used to team my mage with a necro friend. Risky, especially for the mage, but fun.

Playing a few of the toons mentioned I would go along with tarv.

My SK would love to have someone for heal/quick/buff/debuff.

My Shammy would love more DPS and someone to take any hits.

Shammy/SK duo is a good symbiosis.

Druid instead of Shammy would work too, but then Druids don't really NEED anyone else Smiley: rolleyes now do they? (Yes, I have a druid too.)

Now how about a threesome?

I would suggest throwing an Enchanter into the Shammy/SK duo.

My vote would be for beastlord/druid.

I am an avid fan....thought I should open my post with that since everyone else is! Smiley: lol

I like the warrior/cleric duo a lot. Can accomplish almost everything that a duo could hope for. Throw in a KEI for the cleric and some SOW potions and it is quite nice.

I used to group with a friend who had a barb shammy and I had a barb war...that was a good duo as well.

I think that having decent healing and buffing from one (cleric, shammy, druid) and having good fighting ability on the other (warrior, Pally, SK) makes for a good duo in general.

Of course there will always be situations where you will need a skill or spell that just is not present in the above duos. In the above cases you could add any of the pure casters to make a truly excellent three-some.

Necro/Shaman or Necro/BL. But then again, I am biased towards necros at the moment.

I actually 2-box a Ranger/ Enchanter combo. I use Rune 3(even though I can cast Rune 5(Dots are too expensive and at a cost of 10 to one, I'm saving more HPs for the cash with Rune 3 so it's all good)

Since the Ranger is already great DPS, add Haste on her, slows on the mobs and Rune for damage prevention (usually wearing a Fungus Covered Scale Tunic also which helps greatly with the heals) and they just don't last long at all.

Now that I'm mid-50's it's a little rougher. I just got a 65 Cleric from a friend so have started 3-Boxing with my Duo grouped and Cleric just for buffs and heals outside the group.

I have concidered dropping the Ranger for a Mage though and have even started leveling the mage. A Fire pet with Virtue RULES!!! Also, the Cleric can complete heal the pet and not get any aggro, so how can you beat that?? As a matter of fact, I even see I can drop the Enchanter!! Pets hold aggro well and I haven't seen a spell cast on a pet cause aggro yet. With Complete Heals on the pet as often as you need, Mage/Cleric is pretty sweet. You get melee, nukes, heals, roots, buffs, it's a pretty tight duo!

So why am I playing an Enchanter/Ranger again?

Pally/Chanter is a super combo into the mid 50's. So is Pally/Bard.

Beastlord and a Paladin. Why it works so good ? I wouldnt know, It just happens to do so with me. Me and my friend duo (me being the Beastlord) all the time, and we are pretty much unstoppable.

Personally I've experienced the best results from Shaman / Shadowknight. However thats only after the shaman has his CH type spell.

Below that level it was Shadowknight / Cleric, as slow was less important.

All most any pair will complement and there are many intreasting pair - one is the Dual Necros and Dual pallies heeh heh but in my opionin the most dynamic pair is the Necromancer / Shadow Knight - but i have had a lot of fun with the Wizard / Necromancer also - ( if you like DPS ) heeh heeh.

Every time we get one of these threads, if it hangs around for long enough we end up with every possible combination in the game being recommended. Mostly with good reasoning behind it.

Just goes to show how well the classes really are balanced.

Personally I have duoed a ranger/druid combo for a long time now and so have a strong bias toward that pairing. People keep telling me that I will run into tanking problems, but not so far (60/61 at present). By the time I really do hit the unslowed tanking/damage rate problem we will have changed tactics to use more ranged damage anyway Smiley: grin.

What I have liked the most about this pairing is its ability to handle a very divers range of situations. It works all the way from simple soloing camps, through mass farming to raiding.

Personally I object to the "bot" concept I believe that if some one is going to duo and take up two group slots then they are expected to deliver at the same level as two non duoed characters (if you are soloing you can kill yourself and waste your time as much as you like, but not in a group). So I like duos that allow the player the chance to play both characters to the full.

For this reason I will no longer duo the chanter/druid or chanter/ranger or cleric/anything combo in groups or raids. When things get tough and really need your best effort I don't think you can contribute well enough with the more complex duos to justify taking up the slot. Of course some times there is no choice due to lack of classes avaiable, but these times are usually the ones that convince me that I'm right about not duoing the more difficult classes, lol.

With a ranger/druid in raid situations, most of the time they are simply there for DPS, so it is easy, as long as the ranger is in range they can both do there thing with little fuss, and in fact it could be argued that some one duoing a ranger/druid is more effective than two seperate players, as the one player can cover easily, what does it matter (for the most part) whether it is the druid or the ranger who snares or roots? Both can patch heal, sure the ranger heal is almost useless, but at least he can drop a few points on while the druid casts a bigger spell. The point being that for the most part both a ranger and a druid are paying attention to the same issues in a group or raid situation.

The one time where it does not work is where the druid is in a heal rotation, in this case the ranger may as well not be there and it is a waste of a slot, either that or sooner or later you are going to have a fluffed heal rote and inevitably a wipe.

Although I agree with Samira the chanter/druid combo is great fun and if I am wanting to do some rapid farming this is the best combo I'm convinced, but in the case of raiding it just gets too difficult. At the end of the day the druid will end up a wasted slot, that would have been much better filled by a "live" player. Either that or the Chanter will be doing a bum job.

The "good" things about a ranger/druid pair for soloing?

They can get anywhere in the world of EQ faster and safer than any other pairing, yes even to the depths of dungeons.

They can find any given mob faster and safer than any other pairing.

Their combined DPS is formidable, ranks up there with the classic DPS pet classes.

Their tactical range is as wide or even perhaps wider than any other pairing, all the way from kiting, AoEing, toe to toe duking it out to boring old root and rot.

Their weakness?

Although the ranger/druid's strongest forms of offense are beautifully stackable, they are also often restricted to outdoors/animal only.

Wolf form, once a very usefull tool, has been rendered virtually useless in nearly all the later zones. Some thing akin the Chanter's Boon of Garoo spell being turned into toilet paper! {:frown:]

I've tried duoing with a necro a few tiem(Im a wizard) it's a lot of fun but their pet can't hold agro as well as a mage's pet :(.

Shamy/Pally is a great combo as well.

I have a 59 ranger and my wife plays a 58 enchanter. I've found that we can duo with a lot of success. I just pull and root, dot and snipe away at the mob while she slows and debuffs. If the root hasn't broken by the time she's done with debuffs she walks over to it and takes a hit to get her pet involved. It works pretty well now that we have our timing down. That being said, I wish she would have made a shammy instead of the chanter.lol

I would have to differ on this but that's another topic. I would agree that you will eventually hit all combinations though. :)

I have seen a monk/chanter - interesting to watch at high levels. Shaman/SK & Cleric/SK are other combos that I have seen that seemed to work well.

I would be interested to hear how a Necro/Rogue would work, if anyone has tried it.

Necro/rogue would probably be a nasty combo too. Necro fears, snares, DoT's and sends in pet, and rogue backstabs 100% of the time for killer action.
