Do we still get XP points if we have just about killed a creature, but at the last moment a guard rushes in and kills it?

I don't believe so, and there is no corpse left for loot either.

nope, the body dissapears too so you can't loot it either.

edit: Ooops, same post at the exact same time, very nice!

Nope, otherwise people would take a mob down to 49% health, then let the guards do the rest and get exp.

If the guard gets the killing blow and no corpse is left you do not get exp.
If you get the killing blow and do more than 50 percent of damage, and a corpse is left to loot you do get the exp.

Only once in my entire Norrathian life have I ever been able to out damage a guard and take the kill. A moment of minor triumph Smiley: smile

Usually when you really need their help they just stand there and stare at you, when you don't need their help they will run half way across the zone to kill steal you. Bastages. Yes Sgnt Slate, I'm pointing at you!

Then there's the 2 highpass citizens and occasional guard down by Roars in Highpass. Inevitably, I'll get a Soothesayer who roots or snares me--"your feet adhere to ground"--& I'm out of aggro range for the citizens when 2 more of the Gnoll's buddies decide to join in the monk-bashing. However, whenever I successfully save against it & I'm one-on-one & the Soothesayer runs, these guys jump in!

Ah well, rather have them there than not. :)

If you train a hill giant to the 2 guards at the tower on the hill near the gypsy camp in NK he will kill the guards but be on low life and easy pickings for a character who would normally get their *** handed to them by a HG.

On the other hand Tundra Jack and his huge Polar bear buddy have come clear across the zone to kill three Ice Giants that I was working fine until an orc shammy rooted me and cast on me until I was so low on mana I was sure I was already dead.
Thanks Tundra!
