I've been making Solstice Earring items on Fennin Ro, and have earned enough plats for my 46 druid main to think about mounts.
(Medding while standing would be handy). However, I haven't been able to get much from web resources about the differences between the various colors and bridle types...or the differences between drolvags and horses, etc. I don't want a critter slower than sow, and maybe not even one slower than my wolf form. Is there a place where I can get a summary of the speeds and properties of the various types of mounts? Is this worth doing for a druid?

If you want a mount that is faster than sow, its gunna cost you. I have the 30k(large drum) drogom, and is not as fast as sow, at least desnt seem to be. As for colors and such, color doesnt mean anything, just your preference. The size of the drum or bridle determins how fast the mount is. Hope that helps a bit.

Since black and white are the most popular color choices for the horses, they're more expensive, though they function no differently.

The run speed issues are really not going to be a druid's main concern when getting a mount. What many people feel they need it for is the standing mana regeneration. This is progressively more important as one levels up. High level groups want to pull fast and hard, and allow for very little meditation time for the casters. It doesn't matter to your group if you have FT1 or FT15. They'll give you the same 1.5 minutes of med time between a run of 8 or 12 pulls. And we all know the casters shouldn't sit when a pull is coming in.

I wanna be there when you try to put that saddle on that Drolvarg hehehe. I think you meant Drogmor.

There are 4 price levels for the horses and drogs and each jump in price corresponds with increased run speed. I can't say with certainty what the first 2 speed levels are, but the 60k drog runs at +51 level SoW speed and the 100k drog runs at +51 level Bard speed.

If you want the mount for travel purposes then save up for the best one and get Bard speed. If you strictly want the mount for medding purposes then the 10k model will suffice.

They are a huge benefit for casters. You can med constantly without drawing sit aggro. They will also carry you at their full speed even when you're so encumbered that you can't walk.

I bought the 60k drog because I was too impatient to save up for the best one, but I wish I had waited. SoW speed is nice but Bard speed rocks.

As far as horses, White and Black ones are a little more expensive than the Brown or Tan ones. The quality of the bridle (rope, leather, chain, etc.) determines the speed. Roughly 10k for the slowest and close to 100k for the fastest.

Drols colors do not effect price and the speed is based on the size of the drum (bigger = faster). Drols running moves its rider in a side-to-side motion while a horse is an up-down motion. Horse heads block peoples vision while a drog does not.

I think the order of speeds are:

Slowest = normal character run
Not the slowest = J-boots (not the fabled ones)
Med = SOW - post 55 level
Fast = Selos
There may be another level in between but not 100% sure.

A friend of mine plays a druid and he bought a 10k horse. He uses it to med but runs where he needs to go.

IMO - druids do not need any more than a horse to med on. But, it also depends on your play style and what you want for your character.

Sorry - guess I was too slow - everyone beat me to it :)

Found this on shadowknight.org, taken from paladins of norrath.

Here is some measurements a chanty guildy (jalous from my horse) did on Beta using himself, a druid and myself:

Run0: (29.8 coordinates/sec)

Rope horse (9k): +7%
Run1: +10%
Run2: +20%
Run3: +30%
Spirit of the shrew: +30%
Jboots: +35%
Tboots: +35%
Swift Journey 1: +40%
Illusion Scaled Wolf: +45%
Swift Journey 2: +50%
Spirit of Wolf: +55%
Wolf Form (selfonly): +55%
Spirit of Eagle: +60%
Share Wolf Form: +60%
Greater Wolf Form (selfonly): +60%
Form of the Great Wolf (selfonly): +60%
Share Form of the Great Wolf: +62%
Flight of Eagles: +65%
Scale of wolf (breaks when hit): +70%
Form of the Hunter(selfonly): +72%
Chain horse (100k): +114%
Spirit of cheetah (selfonly): +115%
Paladin AA horse: +150%
Bard speed (at runspeed cap, absolutely max in game): +156%

I still miss from my list:
Leather horse (30k)
Silk horse (60k)
Emperor/Seru horse

Points worth noting:
- Spirit of Shrew (indoor sow) is same speed as run3 and therefore worthless except for lowlevel chars without AAs.
- The GoD AA "Swift Journey 2" (formerly known as "Advanced Innate Runspeed 2") takes you almost to sow-speed.
- Flight of Eagles is slightly faster than Spirit of Eagles.
- 100k horse is Spirit of Cheetah speed which is between "2 times sow" and "2 times soe".
- Paladin AA horse is practically at runspeed cap (talk about overpowered Im NOT jealous)
- Runspeed cap in game is 2.56 times as fast as Run0.
