It's great being a kitten!Follow

#1 Mar 31 2004 at 4:35 AM Rating: Good
Yesterday I got home very early, started a Vah Shir Beastlord and it's absolutely great up in Shar Val.

Being a real ********* I started her without any funding just to see if I still have it in me and have to admit that I had never twinked a toon if every place was so packed with quests as Shar Val and even more Shadeweavers Thicket.

In no time I made lvl 7 the hard way (died several times in the pit which nags me a bit) but had more fun than the whole weekend with my mains. During questing I learned a bit on brewing and tailoring whereas the later of which brought me allready stat adding pieces (shade silk armor)and will even reward me with Bazaar-tradable goods soon. I quested some armor pieces which are as good as leather and there are quest for at least 3 different lines of armor and 3 or more weapons that beat by far what you get usually as the "final task" elsewhere.

I could not resist to peek at the quest list here at allakhazam and it seems that I can go up to level 20 and really survive on what I quest and craft as a kitten.

Oh - and the quest stuff is 90% no drop so it means something to finish it ;))

The only flaw is that there seem to be no maps in Shar Val and surroundings but the Luclin graphics is a major bonus too.

And the patch killed my fun suddenly of course......hope there is no patch this evening but mobs are still around ;-)

Hey fellow kitty,

I just want to wish you good luck on all your questing and your new kitty. I am now a 65bst and haveing a blast with it. I was the same as you I took about a 3 month break from EQ just before Luclin came out and when I came back the first thing I did was made me a Beastlord. I have not looked back since then. I started 2 alts and none of my characters have been twinked at all. I only recieved a few nice handouts from the guild that I joined. But nothing too big of a twink. I bought all my weps and armor from money that I saved from killing things and selling to vendors and the ocasional Bazaar loot that I got. I also quested a bunch of armor and weps when I was a young Bst. Again good luck. It only gets better as the pets get better.

I downloaded the maps from http://www.mapfiend.net/ (aka eq-toolbox.com). Very good maps of Shar Vahl and Shadeweavers.

Also, the Blessed Champions Cape is a very nice quest item (though I failed 3 times with it being triv and my boyfriend made his on his first try).

I am now a 58 almost 59 Kitty Shaman and love playing a kitty! Best of luck!

Blessed champion's cape is something you definetly want to look into. It's a nice reward for a quest that you do entirely in shadweavers, and can be done while you get experience.

The biggest annoyance with the Shah Vahl Quests is that because of the relatively high trivials on the quest items - which unlike other "newbie quests" require tradeskills - you can fail a lot. This can mean having to kill large numbers of mobs long after they have gone green.

Tailoring in particular is a difficult choice since you can only get so far on the easy drops. And this is not far enough to be sure of crafting the quest items for a beastlord. It then becomes a very expensive process. Not in spending money since you have none, but in using things that you could sell for decent cash to further a tradeskill. Brewing and pottery are not so bad since they can be skilled up for very little expenditure.

Some of the quests on the Thicket become disproportionate in their later stages, the drops being way too rare for the reward. Although if you are out there farming green mobs for tradeskill drops then your chances are improved.

A quest you will enjoy is the Whisperlings. The reward is a very pretty shield and the quest is fun.

And on MR almost anything is tradeable. I put my Tattered Hopperhide mask up for sale on the bazaar when I'd made myself something better and it sold for 1pp.

PS. Totally agree about the Blessed Champions Cape. However some of those traders are still yellow at 14 and the pathing in the cave is extremely wierd.

Another tip:
Once you have your warder you will find it hits for a maximum of 11. Give it a Crude Boned Halibut that is a common drop in the Thicket (or can be bought for a couple of gp) and this rises to 21.

Hey, thank you all for your input - there are some things I will definitely put on my to do list.

One weird thing I realized is that people pay crazy high prices for HQ and even MQ Rockhopper hide at the Bazaar and I haven't figured out yet why.

And I never thought of the posibility of giving a warder equipment - thought a pet had to humanoid in shape to get stuff, but one never stops to learn ;-)

PS: I'm just about to finish a (simple) quest not yet listed on allakhazam - contributing it to the board will surely make my weekend =)

HQ Rockhopper hide can be made into a handmade backpack, just like an HQ bear skin. MQ hides can be downgraded to LQ and used to make leather padding.

HQ, LQ and MQ hides are also used for Reinforced, Studded and other varieties of leather armour. Due to the enormous shortage of affordable bazaar items on MR it is actually worth making these things - to wear!

Some of those prices reflect this. There are not the hordes or tradeskillers churning out the standard items like acrylia studded masks. I saw one of these on the bazaar for 1800pp the other day. On other servers you pay 5pp or find them on vendors.

HM Backpacks - I didn't think of this :)

And the economy on MR still seems balanced. Ornate molds and patterns sell for around 50k a piece, HM Backpacks for 100p and banded mail for 15p.

Well, a toon called "Lick" offered a single fishing grubs at the Bazaar yesterday for 1.000.000p but that had a special reason obviously ;-)

Since transfer was allowed from the start it's no great difference I think....
