Did you ever....Follow

Ok, so I was in the Baz last night, working on my nightly price adjustments and looking at things I could buy low/sell high, ect...and I ended up trading a couple items with somebody.

So I put the new item up for sale at 12k (2k cheaper than similar items) only to realize that the person I just traded with was browsing my items about 2 mins later....what happens next??

He bought the item back that he just traded to me...then all of a sudden I realize that the 12k price I thought I set it at was really 1200p and the guy had logged out immeadiately after he purchased it.....

<SLAPS HIMSELF IN THE FACE REPEATEDLY>

/sigh...won't make that mistake again

Don't feel too bad, it was only 12k. A guy I know once sold a 125k item for 125pp. In the end it didn't matter much to him, as he had over 500k in the bank and well over a million pp worth of gear when he quit the game.

Ouch! That is a hard lesson to learn. Those little numbers are hard to see, especially if there are a few zeros after. I always triple check the prices ( I learned the hard way too!)

How about getting real drunk and accidentally setting prices as SP instead of PP? Luckily I caught myself when people started checking my trader while I was still working on it - nobody ever bothers to buy my junk!

Ouch

So my question is - what would you have done? Bought back and logged or told him?

I know what i'd have done and I know how i'd feel about anybody that did what he did...

answers on a postcard please

This is an easy mistake to make. When I am done with a gaming session the last thing I do is log on my trader. Most of the time this happens late at night, I’m tired, my eyes are bugging out of my head from gaming to long. So make sure you set the right price on that item. Most of us work hard for what we get in this game to have it sold under priced.

Well...what I'd want somebody to do and what I would do are 2 seperate things....Yes, I'm a hypocrite.

I once stole a Exec axe pre kunark when I was watching a dual and disarm still worked in pvp....just snatched it right off the ground.

/shrug

In the end I guess when I RP I'm pretty greedy, but an rather different in RL....then again this game is more than just a game for lots of folks....

I probably would have sent a tell (would you have given me an "honest" reward in plat), just before I bought it (or someone else would beat me to it anyway if you were afk). Never been that lucky to find something that low. I have sent a couple of tells on things priced at say 25pp instead of the 250pp I thought they should have been, but never been answered, all afk's. And at that low plat, they might have just wanted to get rid of it.

He was probably checking to see how long it would take you to sell it, and what price you put on it, but I think he took advantage, especially with the logging out. He could have even bought it and then negotiated the sell back price, which would give him a nice profit and still not cost you the full 10k.

Of course sending a simple Tell to TheChoicels saying "hey you made a typo on the price" would be completely contrary to the spirit of the bazaar, wouldn't it.

thats how i got my TDoK for my bard. paid a wopping 450p for it.

on Terris-thule it ranges between 4500-10k.

someone kicked them self in the am i am sure, but i was tickled with myself for the great buy i had found.

I once (on FV) sent a tell to someone in the Bazaar who priced some 2k item for 2cp by mistake and I did not even get an apropriate "thank you" which angers me until today. But still I would do the same because I think that on the long run reputation beats profit.

Starting out on MR I filled 8 trader satchels with Banded Armor the first weekends and when noobs bought the wrong size I never hestitated refunding them the money if I did not have the appropriate size (If someone can just afford the coat but nothing else I would have felt like Scrooge himself otherwise)

I still make lunch money on Banded Armor (skilled my third smith up already to have some variety in cultural armor) and always try to have the basics in various sizes in stock. Sometimes naked toons approch my place and buy stuff which such speed and without any hestitation that I can only assume the're alts of a player who allready knows me.

When I was grouping my newest (5th) toon in CB I told a Cleric who I remembered as a customer who picked the wrong size, that the trader was my "sister" and next thing I was assingend ML. So you can build up reputation as a trader that benefits you outside the Bazaar also I'd say.

heh, so I saw the guy online last night and sent him a tell....I said "Hey, nice job catching that mistake I made in the price last night =p"

He replied ":-("

and then camped out again.....I'm not upset about it, again it was completely my mistake, but it does kinda irritate me that he's being all sneaky-hush-hush about it.....I guess that's to be expected from somebody named "Minimischief" tho...

Though I haven't had anything like that happen to me, I have accidentally sold something to a vendor and have no way in hell of being able to buy it back. that really sux ***.
#14 Mar 31 2004 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah, I agree. If I had just made that trade and noticed the person set the price at 1200 instead of 12000 I would have told them. If they were not on I would even consider buying it and then looking for them later to tell them they can give me my 1200 back and they can have the item to price correctly. What a jerk.

I have a "bazaar-mule" that does all my shopping and selling in the Bazaar. So there are not any reputation problems. Shared bank slots make moving items back and forth very simple.

Personally, I don't feel bad if someone sells something for the wrong price. I also don't hide if they ask me about it. Yes, it sucks to be out that kind of cash, but I am not going to go around and question everyone's pricing. If I see what is a good deal, or even an extremely, insanely priced good deal, I will jump on it in a heartbeat.

I price things to move, so my prices are typically 75% of the lowest in the bazaar. People don't ask if I realize I am the lowest, so I don't ask others.

Yes, but this was not a case of stumbling upon a low price. Of course you would not ask every person if they meant to price something low...and I like a deal as much as the next.

This is the person who just traded with him. Immediately after, from the description. It would seem that if you just made a transaction with someone and then saw that kind of error it would be courteous and generate good Norrathian karma to point out the error and help a fella out.

Psst. Has it really taken you this long to realise that I aim for arrogance personified? Look up my choice of name in a dictionary for chrissakes.

Patrician is defined by Webster's as:

1. A person of refined upbringing, manners, and tastes.
2. A member of an aristocracy; an aristocrat.
3. A member of one of the noble families of the ancient Roman Republic, which before the third century B.C. had exclusive rights to the Senate and the magistracies.
4. Used as a title for members of a class of honorary nobility appointed by the Byzantine emperors.
5. A member of the hereditary ruling class in the medieval free cities of Italy and Germany.

Where exactly in there did YOU see arrogance personified??? Or do you equate manners and good taste with arrogance? If that's the case, thank god the chances of us ever meeting at a dinner party are slim and none.
