Update your motherboard bios too if you have not already.

Edit: matched ram stick speeds is also very important with everquest. it doesn't like mismatchs.

Yes, one possible cause could be your ram. Either its just bad or it is of a different speed.

The second possible cause, which hasn't been mentioned is which bank on the motherboard are you putting the new stick. Often times the mobo has specific bank locations of where the memory sticks need to be placed. You should consult the mobo manual. It should have a table showing which banks to use for the the memory that you have.

Well call me stupid, but i was using the wrong loginname to try and post an answer, check your ram, make sure the model numbers are the same, most motherboards recommend that they are the same!

Could well be "bad RAM", but there's also the "wrong RAM".

I have 1024Mb DDR - all fine
Was given a 256Mb stick and thought 'what the hell - I often run several instances of EQ and more RAM should help' - Mucho Crasho
Took it out and all's fine.

Turns out the speed of the 256Mb wasn't the same as the 1024 (133 Vs 2100). The 256Mb is running fine in a friend's PC now, so it's worth checking

i had this same problem running a PC full of PC3100 RAM and then i bought another 256MB of PC3200 RAM, crash and burn

edited to add: shouldnt this be in the tech forum?
