Windows Mode Problem and Zoning ProblemFollow

#1 Mar 28 2004 at 11:47 PM Rating: Decent
Hi Gang!
Since the large upgrade and subsequent patches last week I haven't been able to play in windows mode. I have a Radeon 9800 Pro, P4 3.0, 2 gigs ram. I also have the most current video card drivers.

Since the upgrade and patches I can't go into windows mode. The screen shrinks and goes black and I can't get the game back. I have to shut down the program.

Also, sporadically over the past week I've developed a new problem where I lost patch connectivity every time I zone. I see the new zone for a split second and then go back to the server screen. This will happen for 5 or 6 zones and then self-corrects somehow.

Anyone else having these problems, and have you been able to fix them?

Thanks!

Lou

It seems intermittent.

I played for about 8 hours Saturday with no trouble at all. then I switched server for a raid and could not zone at all. In addition my graphics were wierd with see-thru buildings and great patches of land missing (although you could still run across them).

A friend told me that he had had the problem and spoken with a GM who told him to disable logging as it was seriously bugged and causing the disconnect on zoning. I did this and zoning has been ok since.

I hate to lose the log though

I was having the same problem, using winXP and GeForce FX5600. Alt-tab was broken and if I switched between window and full screen it would go black and then crash.

I found this fix on the EQ boards and this worked for me:

Quote:
Here is what I did this morning, I hope it helps you. Right click on the desktop and open up the Settings on the display properties pop-up. Click the advanced button and then the tab for my video card (GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE). I selected the Performance and Quality Section of that area and unselected the "application-controlled" check box on the Antialiasing settings.

Here is the link to the thread if you want to read it all:

http://eqforums.station.sony.com/eq/board/message?board.id=tech&message.id=14494&highlight=alt+tab+compatibility+toolkit&no_redir=true

Basically, this turns off antialiasing (I left the antialiasing slider at "0"). I have no idea why this worked. I assume they have incompatible code for many of our video cards and that once they fix it on their end, we can turn antialiasing back on.

That fix helped a couple of my guild mates temporarily, but the problem returned for them. Can't say much more, don't have their system specs etc.

Thanks for the info - i'm gonna give this fix a try.

What does anti-aliasing do anyway?

Thanks again!

I believe antialiasing is what makes edges look smooth. After turning mine off, I can't say that I noticed any differences though.
