Ever since the new patch came out earlier this week I've been having a problem which I had never occurred before. Four times now, when I leave my toon up in trader mode and leave for work or just a few hours even, I come back and EQ is minimized and there is a windows dialogue box with an error that says EQ has encountered a problem and needs to close. Two of the times I think it was due to another program automatically opening up, such as messenger (which sometimes automatically logs on... another pain) which caused EQ to minimize. So, I don't know if the error is occuring due to another program opening or what. So if anyone can tell me why this might be happening I would greatly greatly appreciate it.

Also, when I sit down in trader mode, I begin to hear footsteps, like someone is running into a wall or something, when I stand up the sound effect stops and know one is moving anywhere near me. I don't know if any of this is connected or not, but the first time I noticed either problem was after the DX9 patch. I haven't sold anything in bazaar since the patch and it's a real bummer when I have a stack of silks I want to sell, and when I leave there are 12 traders selling them but when I log back on after getting back there are only 2 traders and I'm pretty sure someone came along and bought all of em up, but of course EQ closed on me and I don't get in on the deal.

I think they did introduce some instability that increases over time (memory leak type of problem? Don't know). My trader mule did not crash out, but when I came back after a day in the bazaar, I saw some "weird" graphics problems. Item icons were often appearing as just black or white boxes. Other icons not scrolling on items with longer descriptions (the icon stayed in the sames spot even when the text scrolled, which was pretty odd). I don't remember all the issues, but it was all stuff that I didn't notice before leaving the character in the bazaar all day long...

A system more suseptible to crashing from graphics issues might get bumped after a while. I'd expect they'll stabilize this over the next week or so. In the meantime, make sure your graphics drivers and DX version are up to date.

I don't know if this is actually related to the graphics patches they did this week. IIRC, the patch from last week (or sometime recently) did some fixes to "ambient sounds". That may be what you're hearing. Footsteps are probably the most noticable thing whenever they muck with ambient sounds. Sometimes they are really loud, sometimes you can't hear them at all. I'd expect that when sitting you are closer to the ground, and that may be making the sound louder (that's as plausible an explanation as any).

In general, I have an issue with the ambient sounds in the game anyway. The way they are set up, they are either too low to be heard at all, or they are too loud. So what happens is that ambient sounds below a certain point simply don't register on your sound card and get ignored (at least they do on mine). When it gets loud enough to be played, it comes in at full volume. This makes it seem like the sounds just suddenly appear. Some of this may be my own setup though. I've noticed that this happens when adjusting my speaker volume as well. I can literally make a tiny adjustment to the volume knob and go from hearing *no* ambient sounds, to hearing them very loudly. Nothing in between. I point this out mainly to show that there's a huge variation in how different sound cards and speaker set ups handle multi-channel sound and sound fadein/fadeout. The best I can suggest is to adjust your own settings so they are comfortable for you to play with and don't worry about it.
