no 3d card foundFollow

#1 Mar 26 2004 at 11:25 AM Rating: Decent
After the patch I now get the message that no 3d card was found and the game never starts up past the update screen.

I have a ATI 8500 and it is working fine. I reinstalled and updated my drivers for the card and also reinstalled diretx but neither has made a difference.

Anyone having the same problem or does anyone have a solution for me?

Thanks

David

It should work, I have the ATI Radeon 8500DV and I don't have any issues. I recommend reinstalling your drivers and then reinstalling directx.

when you reinstalled your drivers did you make sure your antivirus software was not running?

you should disable your antivirus software before updating any drivers including DX.

also how long has it been since you updated your MB drivers? you might want to look there too.

yes the ATI8500 is dx9 complient and will run dx9 programs.

Well I reinstalled dx9 again and my drivers. EQ worked after my reboots and it played fine. I turned my machine off cause I had to go somewhere and when I came home and boot my machine back up I'm having the same problem as before. Gonna try a couple more things but this is really strange.

I'll try the antivirus idea and I'll see if I have updates for my mobo. I have a soyo dragon so I imagine there should be some updates for it.

Thx for the replies

Another bad thing to keep in mind constantly reinstalling both drivers and Direct x can cause windows operating system to be a little buggy or you can try( to a point the only fix would be to start all over) removing both audio and video drivers first dont reboot hack your registry keys for direct x, video, and audio entries. Then hope that a reboot you don't have a bluescreen.

To save you a monsterous headache if you what you do doesn't fix it and or attempting what i suggest.. Its faster if you just move all your important files and or save them and start all over... Because once direct x is corrupted every fix you do will be temporary

If you go to everquestlive and check the forums you should be able to find the threads for this problem pretty easy. It was 9 pages long the day after the patch. Almost all ATI cards were having problems. I'm using a 7500 myself. The fix to get past the "no 3d device detected" part was to make sure you use the ATI uninstaller to remove ALL ati software from your system. Then try the new drivers again. If that doesn't work, you need to install OLD drivers, because it was found that some of the new "recommended" drivers didn't work as intended, particularly the ME drivers for 7500's and the XP drivers for 9500's I believe. Then, in case you don't know how to do this, hit START>RUN and type dxdiag.exe. Click on the display tab. It SHOULD say "no problems detected" in the little window below. If it says "This device doesn't support d3d blah blah blah" that driver still won't work. Try an older one. After all that, you should be able to get in. If you run into a major framerate problem in certain zones (mostly outdoor ones post kunark, especially PoTranquility) then you have to add a line or two to your eqclient.ini file. I zoned into tranquility and was down to 1 frame per 30 SECONDS! If you have this problem, go into your Everquest folder and into your eqclient.ini and at the end of the "defaults" section add "HardwareTnL=FALSE" and on the next line "VertexShaders=FALSE" (or Vertexshading=FALSE, can't remember which), both without the quotation marks. Hit save and exit out. Start EQ and you should be golden. Hope this helps and good luck.
