bard twisting?Follow

OK, simple question, tough answer, I'm sure. How do bards twist songs? I was told they could play 2 or even 3 songs at once, and it was called twisting. But how is this done? I cannot seem to figure it out... Smiley: banghead

Thanks in advance!

Its easy, if you have played a caster, this will be easier for you to understand.

Few things to know:
Each song has a set amount of time that it takes to play it *cast it*.
Each song then has a set duration, normally a tick or two.

How they do it:
The bard will start a song, once it is playing, they hit the button again to stop that song and then start up a new song. Once that new song starts, they hit the button again and start up another song, then repeat the entire process. This allows the bard to have several song effects going at once and thus "twisting" the songs together.

Almost every bard song has a duration of 18 seconds, and a casting time of 3 seconds.

This means that you can cast / play a song every 6 seconds, then you can have as many as 5 active songs relatively easily.

0 second - start song A
3 seconds - start song B, song A begins
6 seconds - Start song C, song B begins
9 seconds - Start song D, Song C begins
12 seconds - Start song E, Song D begins
15 seconds - Recast song A, Song E begins
18 seconds - Recast song B, Song A ends (but just restarted)
etc...

Now, this is a lot of work, since a song will continue till you hit it again, but hotkeys can help in this regard.
Make a set of hotkeys
1 - /cast stop, /cast 1
2 - /cast stop, /cast 2
3 - /cast stop, /cast 3

then you can just hit the next number in the list as soon as the casting bar of the previous song ends, in this way its fairly easy to do, it still requires a lot of patience and accounting for missed notes and the like. Few if any bards can realistically do 5 with any form of reliablilty, but more than a few at higher levels are quite proficient at doing 4.

ps: I am not sure if /cast stop is the correct syntax, I would have to look in game, my bard is only level 9 and I havent played him in months :)

close... its not /cast stop, its /stopsong or just /stop

http://www.eqdiva.com will be your friend as a bard. the #1 class site on the web.

the hotkey will save your wrists and fingers a lot of work and eliminate the double click/tap of twisting and can get you to a 4th song with a little work and focus.

dont listen to those claiming to twist more then 4 songs as those are songs that last longer then 18sec. those dont count as they start em, then dont come back to them for extended time.

4 song is the cap for twisting.

2 songs is a breeze, 3 is a good goal, 4 is excelent twisting.

on that note, do not stress out to much if you can not keep a 3 or 4 song twist when you are having to deal with mana, haste, heal, CC, pets, etc... dont let the main thing get clowded, and that is to stay alive.

with the twisting hotkeys try to find a UI that has a nice large casting bar. that will help. also one with incriments on it for the %. by that i mean some kind of indicator when you have a very small % left in the cast. im talking roughly 1/2 a sec left before the song pulses.

that is the key to hitting your 4th song.
