I would have thought that Rogues and Mages would be over the moon with the patches.

From my point of view it gave me a couple of nights early bed time. That can't be a bad thing?

It did interfere with our plans for the final mob in our PoS quest, but I guess he'll still be there tonight.

Well, I like the patch. Everyones armour, equipment, etc. look alot cleaner and richer in color. I've noticed that when you get behind a boulder sometimes you will automatically duck behind it, pretty cool. The only problem is getting stuck at some geometric sometimes. Then again, since building my computer I have never had any lag, framerate problems what so ever. I think alot of that has to do with my ram. When I started playing the game I had only 512mb of ram and was getting some framerate and lag problems, so I decided to add more, now I have 2g of ram. No framerate or lag problem since. No matter what video card I used.

Well put...nice to know that SOE will "weed us out" after we have paid for the game, paid monthly to play and have invested vast amounts of time when our machines meet the recommended on each software upgrade we purchsed.

Had they locked the everquest graphics where they were when it first came out, No one would be playing now. 90 percent of the people whose cards will be affected by the patch will be able to find a minimal upgrade for $60ish new, less used. In the long run this patch will actually significantly decrease the RAM requirements for everquest. It will also be quite a bit more stable than the current client.

On the other hand, i can understand your frustration. i really wish they would set up a "legacy EQ" server. There are probably enough people that would use it. But I doubt it will ever come about due to the difficulty of keeping two seperate patch rulesets. Really though, computers are made to be upgraded. Think of it as your contrabuton to the IT sector job market.

ok i am not the most computer savy person i can usually fix any problem i have because i dont mind researching it but i didnt understand this

is it because better graphic cards generally havemore memory of their own so you would need less from your computer itself?

My rogue is only lvl 42, but from other's comments, the ability to run out of melee range, throw a knife and have to run back to start backstabbing again was... less than awe inspiring Smiley: wink

The current everuest character models are very detailed, but they use an older style of rendering that is really inefficient by today's standards. THat is why you currently have to have 512MB system ram to load them all. When they finish converting them over, or rebuilding them, whichever they end up doing, they will end up with characters with the same level of detail or greater, but requiring only 1/3rd of the system ram. The tradeoff is that the new methods won't work with older graphics cards. I can live with that.

Oh and another great thing about the patch is that Celeni and I have had several nice opportunities to explore under the ground in PoK. Celeni also had a lovely time floating around in the heavens above PoS. Smiley: rolleyes

Adds another dimension to the recommendation that you always carry a gate potion around with you.

After the new patch i have been a bit laggy. But after one look at the night sky any frustration over being a bit slower in some zones was gone. I mean WOW! Very nice.

There is a huge positive for the patch, at least for me:

On my laptop the targetting circles never worked before and the find trader pathing in the bazaar was almost invisible. Both now work properly - apparently Sony figured out how to support laptop graphics cards.

It also looks very nice, but I can't report any major lag decreases in the bazaar, etc.
