Plat guides? Any of them worth it?Follow

#1 Mar 22 2004 at 5:28 PM Rating: Default
Hi Ive been playing the game off and on for a few years now. My main is a 54 ranger and I never seem to have any money ( or any worth while) These "tell all plat guides" can anyone tell me if they've ever bought one of these? If you did how would you rate it? Did you implement any of there ideas? Do you kick yourself for not getting one earlier?

1) I do not wish to buy plat.

2) Looking for legal ways, not macro's.

3) Yes, I realize I can forage things.

#1 plat guide = get levels.

the higher the level, the faster and easier pp will come to your toons.

low 50s is were it can start to flow in, and it just gets better from there. so #1 thing you can do for fast pp, is to level up and kill things, loot them, and sell what you can not use.

pharming is a waist of time unless you are strapped for spell coin, or are getting ready to start a trade skill.

Thank you Mr. Helper man. But none of what I asked did you answer. Although your intentions were notably good, it was a useless post, considering as a 54 ranger, all Ive been doing is getting levels and being broke.

The plat guides say you can rake in tons of plat. If its true, or have proof its true, I would like to know before I plop down the cash to learn something I never knew about the game.

plat guides are a load of tosh, ive read a few of em. there is no wonder way to make cash. if you want cash you have to work for it. singdall is right the best way to make cash is to lvl to 65 so you can kill the mobs which drop the better loot (or you can learn to work the bazaar market and spend the rest of ur eq life at lvl 54 with 2 million pp in the bank) the single best way to make cash is kill the mobs that drop the items that sell the best. but to be honest i wouldnt worry about cash too much. go out and kill mobs that drop upgrades - get ina good guild and go kill hard mobs, you wont need cash you will be equiped without it.

the vast majority if not all of the plat guides are nothing more than a scam. they give you tips that are years out of date or stupid common sense tips like loot everything on mobs you kill and vendor it. Honestly you will find more info on making plat in the forums on sites such as this then wuill get out of all the plat guides combined. Linked is a guide on making plat it's free and it has plenty of real info that does work but you will not get rich instantly.

My main is a 54 ranger as well, and I, like you, have spent much of my EQ life broke. I have also purchased a plat guide online, and it was absolutely not worth it. Nearly everything in there is information I already picked up by playing 54 levels, for example: Kill hill giants in Rathe Mountains and sell the stuff. Woopie.
Save your cash, peruse sites like this, ask guildies, maybe even work on some in-game skills like fishing that take little investment. Kill stuff and sell it, bargain shop the bazaar, and never make a transaction with a vendor without gitting your charisma over 104
Also, as a ranger, max out your foraging skill, hotkey it to a movement key, and hit the dungeons. The forage only tradeskill stuff in ldon is used to craft stuff that trivials at 150+, and high level tradeskillers will pay through the nose for it.

Vovin, your guide was pretty good. Since Ive never actually farmed anything before I think Ill give it a shot when I get some downtime. I didnt realize things sold for as much as they do. One thing I hate abut foraged items is that I know they should be selling for a good chunk of plat but Ill see some noob ranger druid and bard getting rid of a lot of forages for a few mere plat. I think from now on though rather then try to compete with other vendors prices Ill just by up their stuff and mark it up with my stuff. Its not a bad thing to monopolize is it? :) Thanks though.

I started EQ after New Years, and have a 44 druid main right now. No sugar daddies, so I had to get cash myself. The key is to identify a steady income source. I pick up spare change from foraging; e.g. gargoyle granite from Mistmore Ldons is worth 100 plats or so, and you get 4-5 in a normal mission. You can also build up a tradeskill; baking isn't that expensive to build up, and there are some nice high-end items. Most tradeskills are money sinks rather than gains, but I've finally made some nice steady cash with baking and pottery.

You can also identify a common, but useful, item and periodically harvest it and sell it in the bazaar. Spider silk, leather padding (spiderling silk + low quality pelt), various ores (acrylia), etc. are all in steady demand and will sell quickly on the bazaar. Most can also be farmed pretty reliably. It's also possible to camp and look for high-end drops; they'll eventually sell for a lot but you may need to park your toon in the bazaar for a long time.

heres a top of the notch rating for the plat guides - Useless.

they tell you things that you could ask allmsot any player in the game for ... farm spiderlings for there silk ... waste of time unless you still get xp form them ... farm giants in rathe ... more of a waste since rouges walk buy and pickpocket the giant you killing, that is if you can even get a giant in the first place w/o someome else taking it

i agree the best way is to get a lv 65 and go solo the top end creatures.. like solo some of them guys that drop centi long swords or if you can, lodizal ... the high level monsters drop good stuff if you can find them, much more money from them than in them plat guides, besides, if you get lv 65 what would you want p[lat for anyway? you could just go solo the creature for the item you want .. lol

As others have mentioned, the plat guides are not worth it. A long time ago, there were some closely held secrets by a couple people for making plat, and they sold their ideas. Once a couple people purchased the guides, they told other people and the effect snowballed.

Since then, the "get-rich-quick" plat guides are useless.

My personal favorite is to head to Sol A and slaughter those filthy, red-skinned golbins for their FS weapons. Clearing the dungeon doesn't take very long at level 54 and you can net a good amount of FS and HQ ore, both which sell for 5-6pp each. Just bring a lot of containers. Zone out sell at the druid ring and head back in. Since Sony added a positive faction hit to the Sol A goblins, farming is decent also.

This is nice to get a little pocket change (couple hundred plat per hour). It helps the clerics peridot fund, food fund, minor spells, etc.

For the big cash...

You need to hunt in groups that have drops which you can sell. Most of the "good" loot is from higher level groups. So get the levels and start camping Ornate drops, Fungi, Flowing Slime boots, etc. All you need is one of these drops to get a decent chunk of cash.

Also, if you hunt in PoP zones, keep track of everything that drops (write the names down). Head to the Bazaar and search for all of those items. Now create another list of the good cash items. Next time they drop ask if you can have it. Most of the time people are ignorant to which items are good sellers.

For example, my cleric would loot everything in a PoTactics group. Right before I left I asked everyone in the group if there was anything that they wanted and I linked all the items. Everyone refused stuff, and that included two highly polished gems. Each gem is used in jewelcrafting and sells for 5-10k depeneding on the server. All the other trash loot sold for over 4k. Some people just don't realize the worth of items.

edit: fixed a couple grammar items, let other grammar items in to annoy people

Learn and do the coldain bracer quest it usally sells for about 2 to 3k I think on most servers. U can do most of it with a very low level toon. And what you cant do with the low level toon you can do with your higher toon. I once sold 3 in one day and made 10k that day. It can be a little boring but anyone that dots can enjoy the bracer. Justdo a search of coldain military bracer and there you go . And you can thank me later, I'm sure you will) its that easy and that good when you know how. Learing the placement of the mobs is the hardest part that and getting the poison from crystal caves hey
you can even get veilum while you down there.

at 54th as a ranger, hit dulak and pull in from 300-1500p an hour from gem drops.

like i said, best way to get pp fast is to level. the higher you level, the faster you can get pp.

my bard starting around 45 or so hit dulak and started pulling in between 300-2k pp an hour.

my nec starting around 55-58 or so started pulling in between 300-700pp an hour depending on where he was hunting.

at 60th he could easily pull in between 500-1k without breaking a sweat and get xp at the same time.
