Background info and other stuff for noobsFollow

Hi all,

I'm trying hard, really I am, but it seems to me that I read a lot of stuff that you guys talk about as common knowledge that I have never heard of and don't understand. Ok, so I may be a bit tick, but give a noob a chance eh?

So where can I go to find out about this stuff? Or am I doomed to continue posting lame questions on here that will no doubt bore the pants off the majority of posters?

Such subjects to which I refer -

Anniversary Celebration - What was that? What did it mean / do / achieve? What was the new kit? How do I get involved? Where do I go?

2 boxing - What the heck is that all about? Can't imagine I'll ever be doing it, but I'd like to at least understand it. :)

I'm not looking for answers to these questions directly from you. (I have plenty more) But I just wondered if there was somewhere, maybe on this site, that I'd missed, where I could go for further info.

Any assistance greatly received. If knowledge is power, I'm currently at about 3amp but trying to fly to the moon.

i'm not sure what site could tell you everything that your looking for. to me it seems that the mostly cover classes, spells & such. but i hope this helps you a bit.

the anniversary celebration is for Everquests fifth anniversary. i don't think that it intends to achieve anything other than providing some fun stuff for the players to do. but i could be wrong.
i'm not sure what kit your refering to so i can't help you there. :)
two-boxing is when one person is running 2 computers with everques & playing 2 different characters at the same time. for example a former friend of mine two-boxes an ogre warrior & a troll shaman. makes it easy to fight when you have a healer right there.

Don't worry, we're already bored. That's why we're posting.

Where to find information? The list of links running down the left side of this page is your best friend. Got a question about a zone? Check the zone link. Got a question about a specific spell? Check the spells link, etc. etc..

Class specific sites are also good sources of information if you want to learn a bit about the various tactics your groupmates are employing to help take mobs down.

Go to your home town to join in the anniversary fun. It's still going on. There's a new NPC there who will give you a quest. It's a scavenger hunt which rewards you with a clicky fireworks stick. The other events are the nightly (game night, not earth night) invasions of skeletal hoards invading the zones near most cities. I haven't heard of any real high level items dropping from the skeletons, but there are definately some goodies dropping from them.

edit: Okay, if you're still level 11, the scavenger hunt will be not really doable. The new npc is selling some anniversary goodies though. As to the skeleton hoards, you may want to hang near the action, but out of harms way and wait for people to announce drops available to loot. One of those big skellies in Steamfont was light blue to me at 61.

Lol at Yanari. Surely not bored enough to be reading my garbage? But glad that you took the time to answer thanks.

Thanks to Princess Fippy too.

I've been chased about the place a few time by those giant skellies and seen plenty of chat about them. Didn't know they were Anniversary related though, cool.

I'll head back to Halas and see what the new NPC is offering, if I can find him. Haven't been back for a while and need to stock up on throwing weapons anyhoo. :)

Thanks for the info, I've tried the beastlords den for further class specific stuff too.

That 2 boxing still baffles me. My mind and fingers struggle to keep up playing one geezer in a battle, what with all the different chat modes and windows to keep up with and everything. Can't imagine what it must be like with two keyboards, mice and screens!!!!! Then again I'm still new and haven't all the shortcuts yet. Perhaps I'll get better over time. Not much of that left though, I'm already an old git. lol.

All the best to ya.

Two boxing is not hard to do if one of the classes is not an active melee class. I do it occasionally, (whenever the second machine is not being used which is usally at 5 am est) using jonwin my 52 paladin as a healer and the now level 30 folks as the melee/caster. There is even the ability to do "botting" or roboting when you have both accounts open on the same machine and switch from window to window. Usually put the paladin on autoattack and then activate the caster for heals and a nuke or root when the mob runs. My machine alas does not have enough memory to handle botting and fighting for Elne Clare's machine to stressful.

My boss at work 4 boxes <on 2 pc's using Eqwindows> he plays a SK, Shammy, Chanter, cleric. he can and doed do normal LDoN on his own and groups in BoT with his 2 brothers. <Say Hi Uumuur if your reading this. He is very shy, 0 posts in 3 years lol>

So it can be done but i would say leave it untill you can play one class with little effort before bounding down this rocky road.

As stated playing two characters at the same time (via two PC's) is relatively easy to do in "normal" situations. I have two good friends who duo a Pally and Cleric, and a Warrior and Cleric and there is very little that they can't handle.

I duo a Ranger and Druid quite often and if I/we (it does send you a little schizo I will admit) play in traditional tank/healer mode it is equally easy.

Some classes though can be very challenging. I have duoed an Enchanter and Druid on raids a few times, it is stressful in the extreme if you are trying to play both characters properly.

It gets even worse when the raid leader puts you in two different groups, lol.

Someday, when I have done everything and been everywhere I will try duoing a Chanter/Mage or Chanter/Necro combo (maybe a Chanter/BL even) I suspect to play these two together well would be a serious challenge, but if you could manage it I doubt there is much that could stop you.

One of the biggest problems with playing two characters is moving around in dungeons or hostile zones. Often (as you may know) when you move from camp to camp in enemy territory you make a quick dash through areas not fully cleared, or you are using invis etc. I find that inevitably which ever character is on autofollow gets snagged up some where along the line, stuck on some steps, caught behind a lampstand or some other protuberance. Of course this will co-inside with invis dropping, a wanderer coming through or something.

What I often do now is have Celeni autofollow some one else in the group (preferably the leader) and then I tag along with her so that I can see if she is getting into danger or getting left behind.

Doing all of this underwater is a whole other trick, lol.

Has anyone tried 2boxing with a KVM switch? I have 2 comps and 1 KVM- the only drawback I can see is the small delay for each comp to activate the mouse and keyboard after switching.

I do use the switch, however, to make my game experience a bit easier- when swithcing over while pressing the up arrow, when I switch back it stays on (character is running without me having to touch the keyboard) and I can hit left/right without it stopping. Its also a handy way to up your swimming skill)
Also, of course, I always have Allakhazam up on my 2nd box so that when I med while soloing I can get any info I need.
And last but not least I keep a fresh copy of EQ on my 2nd comp just in case my 1st has any problems.
