Having the same issue here, I believe I heard it had something to do with ATI cards, but not positive. Tried updating drivers today but it wasn't working right :(.

Looking forward to seeing more responses here as well.

I also have this problem on my laptop, as well as the find feature being very hard to follow. However, on my desktop, both work perfectly. I dont know why...

how old is your vid card? the older Nvidia and ATI cards will NEVER display the target ring.

if you are not running a newer card you will not be able to see the target ring or indicator.

i was having this problem also and i kind of was thinking it may be my video card my computer is a walmart special

i have updated the ram to 1024 and i think the processor is 2.6 or 2.4 something like that anyways but i am guessing the card sucks so when i get home i will see what it is and maybe start another topic asking for a good card since i know next to nothing about them

My new laptop, an HP Pavilion has a NVidia card and i have no problems.

My former laptop was a 3yr old ProStar with one of the Moile ATI cards and with DX9 i was able to see the targeting ring.

Now, my desktop is a Compaq with a AMD 3200 processor and the video chipset with a ProSavage card set designed specifically for that processor and i don't have the targeting rings, flames from fires or torches or toon names unless they are visible on bare sky. Terrain features overlay them. Only solution i've been told is to install a NVidia or ATI card. (This particular machine is about 18months old.)

Have an ATI Raedon 7500 in my laptop. Wierd thing is, fried's laptop (same exact as mine...just about 6 months older) has a NVida Card and does see it. Not too big a deal, but would be nice.

I'll just wait until I build a new system :)

I was having the same problem with my old video card. It was a Voodoo 4. Yeah, it sucks, I know. Anyway, did a small upgrade to a ATI Radeon 7500 and I suddenly have beautiful targeting rings. Keep in mind that my computer is a desktop though, so that may be a problem with your laptop Cafeen. A lot of times video card companies will make a "mini" or mobile version of one of their desktop cards, give it a very similar name (or even the same name) but have to reduce it's functionality and lower it's specs to fit it all on the card. SOE will openly admit (along with every other game developer just about) that there games haven't been officially tested on laptops because of the varied results you get from going mini.

Can't comment on the exact specs of the card beyond the name and ram which I mentioned above. (ATI Raedon 7500 64MB if I didn't, nothing denoting that it's a "mobile" version, but very well could be). BUT! with the latest changes (even before I updated driver, but after I had updated to dx9) I now have the ring. Didn't really miss it before, but it's nice to have everything that comes with the stuff :)

SoE has gone beyond the "non-tested" comment and actually have come out saying they do not support laptops. There used to be a page *somewhere* on eqlive about this, but it has since been lost to me. My friends are big comp nerds though (and I'm a small one) so things work out fine.

Same problem with my GeForce2. Could always see it before the switch to 9. So now, as I've been saying since the switch... D**N you DX9.
