I have 2 accounts, but my PC's are on different floors of the house. How do I log into both accounts on 1 PC? And then, how do you switch between controlling toons? (Shift+Alt+R)? Thanks for your help,

John

It depends on your operating system.

Basically make a copy of your entire EQ install by copying the directory. Rename it EverquestB or something so you can tell which is which.

Put a new shortcut to Everquest.exe in the new directory and once one "box" has loaded start the other. Don't try loading both at once as even once the patcher is finished it slows you down enormously.

If you prefer use EQWindows which has better control over 2 windows. Download the program from here.

You will not be able to run side-by-side and will need to disable sound in one of the directories (use Options when starting to do this).

If you are running XP then you need to download the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit and disable the entry for EQ as it prevents using Alt-tab to change windows.

You may need to reduce options to lower the resource requirement. You will need a minimum of 512Mb RAM and 1Gb would be better. You may get it to run with less by using old models and low resolution and details but what's the point then.

EQWindows seems to give smoother switching. Before I started using it I could be running fine and suddenly a box-switch would take 2 or 3 minutes with disk thrashing while windows confused itself. If you are tasking for a quick heal this can be a bit annoying.

You will get lag between boxes if you try and do things like autofollow. You can overcome this by switching to the follower's view and back or possibly by adjusting the foreground ssettings for XP/EQ (not something I feel competent to do).

Hope this helps

No need to take up all that HD space with multiple install points. Just turn your short-cut destination into "C:\Program Files\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme

Skips the patcher completely, and you can just open it once, log in, open it again, log in. Works like a charm.

I load both games off the one address. Just type in the account name that I want to play. Of course I have to log in on one account then on the other.

Really, really stupid question...has anyone tried running EQ in Windows Terminal Services mode (using the native Windows XP RDP client)? Is the performance acceptable, or is there a huge hit because of 3D and caching of the bitmap images?

This might be a solution for 2boxing when the computers are located on different floors, albeit the solution may not be a very good one if performance sucks. Just some wild "out of the box" thinking.

I play two accounts on one computer... and i don't do anything special to my computer either. I just load one account, hit alt+enter, and alt+shift+r to get out of the window. Then, i load the other account. i leave it in windows mode, and the switch between windows is nearly instant. I leave my trader on all the time, while i play my main. I don't have an issues with lag or anything else like that.

The method described by Solarfire is what I tried to do. But the second account froze up at the patcher. I'm not really sure if I want to start downloading extra programs and making copies of things...=/. I may just go ahead and move the other computer for a night or two and try it out. I'm not sure if I'll be doing it often enough to warrant making changes to my computer. (I'm not very computer savy and I get nervous changing things inside a program)

Thanks,
John

I tried renaming the shortcut to eqgame.exe and it doesn't start the game. Says run EverQuest.exe. Maybe I didn't do it correctly?
