Hot Buttons / Macros / Keyboard Set Up / Mouse vs. KeyboardFollow

Ok, I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for when I was going through the posts, though I know I very well could have missed something.

The first thing I will ask - is how many of you use your other 9 hotbutton tabs. I know the command to reach them is Shift + # of the tab. I have seem some posts suggest to use one page of it for just your spell book, so you can quickly reach the spells you need. This probably isn't as necessary anymore with the new spell options. But I was curious - doyou have one say for soloing, one for groups, one for raids, etc.? I personally only really use 1 & 2. 1 has all my major group macros, I usually cast spells by doing Alt + # anyways, the second page is actually all of my bags made into buttons, as well as ones for my weapons, so I can switch weapons with out having to go into inventory.

Second is Macros - Is there an easy way to get a list of all the possible commands so I can make macros easier? I know I can do /help, but would like to just have a list in front of me instead of having to scroll around a box. Also is there one for your saved spells, like /loadspells <spells set name>

Third a combo question - Do you use your mouse alot, almost exclusively, do you use it in conjuction with your keyboard about equally, or do you almost only use your keyboard. I ask because my job has made me big on hot keys, I know for a fact that being able to hit Shift + 3 is faster than clicking on an arrow three times. I've been trying to come up with the most ergonomic and efficient keyboard mapping I can. I only have one problem right now though - whats good for my shaman isn't good for my berserker, which isn't good for my ranger. Is there a way to save keyboard set ups for certain characters?

Thanks for you time :-D

First off, the easy answer :) -- Keyboard mapping is global, meaning that it will affect all users on that system. EVEN other accounts. Also, your key mapping will not appear if you use another's system, theirs will. (This is also partially true with hotkeys, socials, and all that ini stuff, you will have to set it up for each system, unless you copy the ini files over).

Personally, I am a 90% keyboard player. Only use the mouse to look around and sometimes to pick targets out of a group to mez. Everything else I do is keyboard based. My setup is rather basic though, 8 spell gems are hotkeyed, then I have 1 socal announcing that mez has landed (note: I do not use an "Attempting to mez" hotkey, as it just adds more unnecessary spam, everyone should be assisting the MA unless I tell them otherwise :P). Last hotkey is swapped out depending on need (/pet attack, INC message, AA Ability, etc). This is how I've played since...lvl 24? when I finially got the trilogy and could use 10 hotkeys. Mainly 2 pages, 1 is spells and those 2 socials, 2 is swap keys for the #9 (Inc, Assist, as described above)

There is a /loadspellset and /savespellset command and it's used as you already assumed. For a list of full ones I'm sure someone here has one, the one posted here on alla's was a bit outdated last I checked, but may have a few things you're looking for.

Thanks - yeah, I might get stuck with one set up Smiley: disappointed oh well, thats ok. I guess I could make a bunch of ini files that have it and move it around, but I think that would require me to restart the game. /shrug

Yes it is - quite outdated Smiley: smile but thats ok - it was a start, I guess I'll just go and get my pad and paper out and make my own list from the game

There should be two text files in your EQ directory: Everquest_Manual.txt and Eqmanual_supplement.txt. The manual lists all of the core commands in detail, while appendix A of the supplement should contain any new commands.

1. On my main i have 4 pages

Page 1: my standard set up. Taunt/Disarm/Yaulp/Pulling hotkey/assist/Knockback stun hotkey/sit/Divine aura/LoH.

Page 2: My 1 hand + shield setup <as above with Bash but no knockback stun hotkey>

Page 3: Raid set up with /assist raidtank etc.

Page 4: with random emotes, /who all <guild> and clickies. this atually page 10 so it's easy to get too.

my wifes necro has 6-7 filled for use with the various roles she plays.

I also definitely use several pages of hotkeys.

I am an enchanter. For all "buff" classes, I have some hotkeys set up to make my life easier.

1. /tgb on
2. /tgb off

These two turn "target group buff" on and off for casting "group" buffs on other people's groups, such as group clarity.

3. /rtarget

This one targets the last person to give me a tell (usually for requests for haste on raids).

I have a whole page of hotkeys dedicated to targeting all the main tanks and main assists (gotta target them fast to cast rune V and if the main tank goes down I gotta target the next one just as quickly).

I also have a page dedicated to targeting the clerics. Same thing. They need a rune when they get healing aggro.

I have hotkeys for Mez/slow messages to the group or raid so they know what mob I just parked. Same goes for a charmed pet. Gotta tell everyone that mob I just charmed isn't an add anymore. :)

I love the new spellbook options for loading spellsets, and I think there is a way to load spellsets from the command line, but I haven't figured that one out yet to implement it into a hotkey, but I'd love to!

Stuck here at work today, so I can't go into my toon and check for pages of hotkeys I feel I'm forgetting, but hopefully this gives you (or anyone else!) some ideas you find useful.

As a chanter, I find myself needing to throw out info quickly, I use alt+# for spellcasting, but I have macros buttons for a lot of things, mezzing, slowing, leadership targetting, pacifying, and other things I know I'm forgetting. I also have a clickie for my pants on the first bar since I use them all the time. Finally I put a sit button on my main bar. I then moved my normal action window to socials tab, found and empty one, and have a pleasant variety of message texts available quickly by a mouseclick, for those things that I dont do much, for example an Incoming message (chanters rarely pull, but can found doing it now and then). A corpse drag button, a /loc button, that sort of thing, thats no good on the main tab. Because I have those there, I almost never use a second hotbutton bar. I also have a UI mod that puts all my bags right next to my hotbuttons so they are easily accessable as well.

Dont know what is right for you, but my roomate plays a shaman, and does a lot of 2 boxing to buff her twinks, and she has an extensive selection of hotbuttons to do that job, using the socials bar to giev yourself something like 16 more hotbuttons available at a time is real handy.

As you can tell, it's going to depend on your character more then anything. My ranger... I use the keyboard to type, shoot arrows, hit autoattack and move around. Mouse everything else. Quite boring actually. Necro... a little keyboard, a little mouse. Just about 50-50 there. My bard, 95% keyboard. I have to keep my fingers close to my twisting keys. My hotkey pages are all kinda screwy, but I know exactly which page/which key I have to hit for everything. I have one for AE kiting, 1 for charm/swarm kiting, 1 for chant kiting, 1 for group... I use almost all of em. Page 0 is like my admin page though. My favorite hotkey is on that page. I hit SHIFT+0, 0. It looks like this:

/sit
/camp
