Hi all,

I don't get on too much but would like to be in groups with people I can play with regular. Therefore it seemed that joining a guild would be the perfect solution.

So with this in mind, I played nice and had fun hoping that one day in the not too distant future someone would be impressed enough, or have enough pity, to invite me to join their guild. Lo and behold at a mere level 10, having only been in EQ for 15 hours tops, I'd played with someone i'd invited to group with for about 45 mins and they invited me to join their guild. Crikey, great I think to myself, yes I'd love to. So in I goes.

However as it seemed so easy it got my cynical head thinking. Was I too hasty? I know nothing about the guild or how it operates etc. Should I have found out more or am I just beeing a pleb.

So my question is, is there any reason not to join a guild? Does it prevent you from joining other? (I assume I'd have to leave the first.) Is there any down side?

Or was I just so damn cute they couldn't resist me?

Lance.

At level 10 guilds arent really crucial to your progress as a player, but like you said it does help with getting groups and making new friends! At level 10 i wouldnt worry about being hasty when joining guilds, if you like them then thats great, if you don't then you can simply remove yourself and look elsewhere.

Its not until you get to a higher level that guilds become more important, as you need them (in most cases) to start raiding regularly, which in turn improves your equipment and experience. When u get to a higher level (im talking 55+) you need to consider what the guild stands for, when it raids, where most of its platers are based etc, and ensure they are the type of guild you want to join. These guilds will usually have an application process and trial period.

As to you being cute, im sure that was a factor as well, unless your an troll hehe. hope that helped anyway

As has been said at level 10 it is not that crucial.

However a couple of things to look for.

Is it a guild composed of all low levels or have you joined a guild that has a spread of levels?

If the former then just take it as it comes while it lasts. It may grow with your but is more likely to fade away as people level.

If the latter then it is likely a much more stable affair and you may well be able to grow up in it and take part in "alt raids" at low levels (20's+) as well as find a pool of people to group with.

Watch out for the guild's reputation and make sure you are comfortable with it. At low levels sometimes exuberance can overcome manners.

Ok, thanks for the tips.

How do I find out more about the guild, such as the spread of levels, number of members, reputation etc. Do I simply ask guild members or is there a stats summary somewhere?

first: make a new chatwindow just for guildsay.
second: do the "/who guild all" once in a while.
third: most guilds have a web page, just ask.

Even better and easier hit Alt G

This opens the guildmanager tool and shows you all the levels and classes. It also shows you who the officers are.

You can sort it by clicking the top of a column to put them in level order for example
