EQ shot 27 (something of a personal bookmark)-

I was looking over screen shots from when I used to play this game.

Feellwin Freehugger of Rallos Zek- 60something Druid.

You see, I quit in the late Velious age..I came back a short time in the PoP age to gain a level or two and some AA's (AA's haven't always been around)

In any case, I loved the game..my Druid advanced through it far too swiftly.
At the time, yes..equipment wasn't nearly so "ubber". I can't believe ANYTHING I see on these new items. And I thought Kunark and Velious were insane..
in any case, Druids, charming Druids, are highly mana efficient and devisating when used propperly.
Its off-subject; excuse my pride.

I was looking over some old screen shots while exploring old files on my computer.
Ah, wait, I did have a point to that previous rant. Excuse me yet again! Rallos Zek lacked the upper levels early on. I was bored; soloing had lost its luster.
Before I left, I made a series of trips outside the coordinate areas allowed-
like when you fall through the world?
Generally, you find vast fields of nothingness.

But I found three, for the momment, unnamed zones in which there were areas outside the confines.
(Yeah..they're all pre-Velious..2 orginial EQ, and the more impressive one is Kunark)
My return during PoP, I searched more. Though I've found some similar adnomialies, most of them were insignificant.

Now- the Kunark one..I take particular interest in for this post.
I had been searching one of the many noob zones there, already well beyond its inhabitants, searching for new loot.

Well, the area I stumbled accross in Kunark was quite interesting..
for my personal interests' sake, not many more detials..
though there was one thing that always bothered me.

There was writing on the walls..
but there was a distortion always blocking it chaotically.
I've made days worth of attempts to understand it..

One of the screen shots I looked over DOES show it, and rather well.
Its a map.

If anyone knows anything on the subject, or its old news, please be sure to tell me.

If not..well; anyone up for an oldschool quest?

Erm, what zone are you talking about? Saying you found stuff in three "unnamed" zones doesn't really help us help you.

There's a zone viewer (works off the EQ zone files) that allows you to clip through walls, so any "secret" areas can be pretty easily explored, even without hassling with emulators. For instance, I travelled beyond the cave-in area in the Kurn's dining hall. As I expected, there wasn't anything there of note.

Aside from quests and stuff when new zones are released, there's little "mystery" in EQ these days. Spells and items are instantly indexed on Lucy. Zones are mapped and "explored" via offline programs and things like ShowEQ. There's no "secret" zones since they're all in the EQ directory anyway. Maybe zones not yet reached in newer expansions, but no secret passages through Befallen or whatnot.

I assure you, there are small areas outside of the normal regions that do have hidden areas. They're generally small, and I have yet to find an NPC in one of these areas, yet they do exist.

I'll bite, though.

The orginial EQ zones were Qynos Hills and Everfrost Peeks. I have a hard time believing no one else has found the EF one- its a bright cube that allows you to reach either end of the zone with ease (BB and Halas- still have to walk to Perma, though I imagine no one goes there anymore, anyhow)
The one in Q Hills is more or less a platform. Nothing special beyond a place to hide and cast spells from in PvP (I'm from Rallos Zek)
The one in Kunark is in..bah, I forgot its name. Its a noob dugeon..looking up in www.eqatlas.com... "Kasera", I believe. Its off the Iksar noob garden, with that Ikky emporer guy..and lots of spiders and skeles in the zone, 20's to 40's I think. Its attached to "Field of Bone" I think.

The thing I found in Kunark is a room of cat's-
they have coordinate instructions writen upon the walls.

I don't use hacks.. I never credited my findings are practical in Kunark, due to the lack of clearity in the room. The one screen shot, however, gives a single coordinate quite clearly.

Also, you mentioned Kurn's? Not in Kurns, but if you go up the tower itself..use Levitate, or Spirt of the Eagle, or Flight of Eagles (being my PoP favorite =D), and slowly climb up..you'ld be surprised!!! You can get REALLY high up there, til, even with maximum clip distance, you STILL can't see the base of the tower. Also, there's many, many ledges on the way up. I explored it constantly, hoping to find a fake door..if you look into the tower itself, the floors are detialed almost halfway up it! Odd..and there seems to be a portal in it as well, though I was never able to get to it. Drove me nuts for nearly a week. Feel free to check it out!

The secret area in Everfrost acted as me and my friends' waypoint in the zone- considering you could go from one to thirty in Everfrost practically, drag it out to 35 on mammy's, and even do IG's for a while til the 50's (if you didn't mind slow EXP), EF was a great zone, and easily the best, imo, in orginal EQ. (Though I was partial to Plane of Nightmare's stalker camp and surronderings in PoP. Nothing like mass charm kiting!)

Yeah. Now I'm just ranting. Lol peace.

The cat room is a GM "prison" for them to summon people to when they need to keep someone put. It's also possible to get sent there if you try to zone into someplace without the proper zonefiles. Way back in the day I tried to enter the Warrens and crashed. Occured to me that I never downloaded the patch, did so, logged in and was in the coordinate room. Had to get a guide to punt me out.

Anyway, I never said there were no hidden areas, just that there were no undiscovered ones. Like I said, various third party programs allow you to explore any zone in detail and even clip through to unattainable sections that you'd otherwise have to be summoned to or otherwise get to in some unconvential manner.
