Hello all.

I would like to try a DPS class out but am having trouble deciding what class to play. With the addition of the Berserker, it almost seems as if there is no other choice as far as DPS classes go.

I have seen most of the DPS classes LFG or LFA even after I have returned from one. (Meaning that they were looking for groups before I left for my adventure only to still be looking when I returned.)

What are your views on the DPS classes? Which one would you consider to be the superior class?

Thanks for your opinions and if this has been a topic before, please forgive me and hold the Dead-Horse beating stick at bay. There are far too many posts to read to find where it was. :)

My personal opinion would be a Beastlord, they have good dps, are also a good substitute for a shaman if one is not available which increases thier desirability within a group. As for who has the best dps, it would probably be a ranger, again these are highley sort after and you shouldnt have a problem getting a group!!

Play what you enjoy and stop worrying about what class is best. If you play well and are enjoyable to team up with, the question will be moot regardless of your class.

Translation, "I want groups to come to ME, I don't want to have to seek out or form groups"

By the way, I'm a magician, I consider myself DPS with some utility and I have little trouble finding a group when I want to. The people sitting around for long periods of time LFG are people who refuse to take the initiative to create their own groups.

Yes, this is a tired, tired topic so you must forgive me if I seem a bit worn out by this attitude. Smiley: snore

I appreciate the opinions that you have but allow me to clarify my question.

That is not what I meant. I used the LFG statement as just an example. Meaning that I notice that certain DPS classes are not as desirable in groups as others. Which leads me to believe that there are certain DPS classes that people consider 'superior' than other. That is the information I am looking for.

Example: Why is a Berserker better than a Monk or Rogue? How does a Ranger rank so high in the DPS category? Are pet classes better than the others for DPS?

Sorry Yanari - I didn't want to upset anyone. :)

I know you weren't, Thorric.

My point is just that it doesn't matter what class you play, as long as you enjoy it and play it well. Otherwise you're going to just get in the endless parsing comparisons of DPS. Which class is considered "superior DPS" changes every few months, it seems.

As a magician, I can pump out pretty acceptable DPS (in my opinion), but a magician is by no means the usual first choice to fill a DPS role. It's one of those "oh yeah, we need one more DPS" classes. That being said, I don't have to spend much time LFG when I decide I want one.

The reason I don't have a lot of trouble finding groups (I believe) is due to a few things:

1. When I don't get a quick response to my LFG tag, I start sending tells to other LFG players asking if they want to team up. We usually have a full group within 15 minutes. Someone just has to take the initiative to start the group.

2. I try to add a bit of personality to my LFG shouts. I'm convinced this helps. I'm never "lvl 61 mage LFG" I'm "lvl 61 magician and sidekick, ready to pummel monsters for fun and profit". Which /ooc will get noticed first?

3. Spread your net wide. Get to know people, put good group mates on your friends list.

I have both a pally and ranger as my melee alts. They're very different, but both are very fun and group friendly.

The most superior Dps class will be the one you play the best.

Thats another way of saying what Yanari said.

Or another way to say it, if you've impressed people with your play style and/or attitude, they will invite you back to group with them even if someone "better" is available...this won't get you the last spot in a group if a specific skill is thought to be necessary but if a group is just starting up it will definitely help.

A lot of it depends on what kind of utility you bring to the group, as other posters mentioned. Berserkers seem to have some pretty spiffy abilities, if they learn how to use them, so as people get more accustomed to them they might get more groups. Beastlords are definitely good utility, especially at level 65...they have a 65% slow then which is only 10% less than a Shaman's or an Enchanter's, and their pets are a good form of crowd control. Necros have a wide variety of abilities, and Mages also have a many ways to apply their dps. Rangers of course have their snare and root and other abilities besides their dps. And Monks have their pulling abilities. Rogues seem to be the most limited in terms of utility, but they are such insane dps that it doesn't matter.

Hmmm...I didn't really want to type all that out, because I've really only played a Beastlord to high levels. So that's all from observation, take it with a grain of salt...and there are many more here who are much much more knowledgeable than I am.

Game on,

Another thing to consider if you are sitting there LFG and are a mage, necro, and or beastlord you can always find something to do ( soloing can be boring but at higher lvls very profitable)
I feel that yes enjoyment of what you play also plays a major role in it. If you play a class that you hate then why continue it... I have played my wizard to the point of lvl 65 and completely stripped except the no drop items and retired... Im liking the berzerker he is currently lvl 48. But alas i made anohter casting class a mage and i am seeing the potential there to.

Also keep in mind that adventure groups with good DPS could finish adventures before you and then be wanting another Adventure. Sometimes you can jump back in with the same group, sometimes you can't. Just my thoughts. I love playing Rangers, but that's be. Beastlords I hear are very powerful also. That's is you prefer the melee road. Casters can be great DPS too. I hear at 61+ with a good bow and the bow AAs, Rangers are better DPS than Wizards!! That info comes straight from my brother who's a 65 Wizard officer of FoH on Veeshan.
