Hi, Jim Nesselroad here.
I have a Dell with a GEforce2 card. It will be out of date and no longer supported with the upcoming graphics engine.

What card whoud I upgrade too?

My newest computer has the ATI Radeon 9600 series. It is the fastest computer in the house and doest\n't have any trouble with the bazaar.

Is that the best one to move with the older computer?

Thanks for the advice.

Jim.

Hi Jim, I've been toying with the idea of building a new computer in hope (vain I'm sure) that I might yet be able to convince my wife to play the game. So I have been checking up on the latest componentry in some of my more idle moments.

There is now some significant differences among graphic cards and is an area you should reseach carefully. Your budget will determine the end result as always, however there is now three different types of graphic card memory and memory address bus speed out in the market.

Just to make it confusing for the lay person, several of these have names/designations that are very similar.

Also some cards have less physical memory than others but the the speed of the bus and the memory addressing is so superior that the card substantially outperforms those with larger memory capacity.

As you might have supposed from this, most of the best cards are sporting the same or similar graphics chipset, where the difference in performance is arising is in the card design and memory type and speed. This is what you need to research carefully.

www.tomshardware.com has some excellent reviews and bench comparisons as always. This where I would suggest you start.

But, since this is here already, what the hell.

The best graphics card for even a somewhat older computer (assuming it has an agp4x slot, which that dell should) is going to be the best Geforce or ATI card you can afford. Even if your computer will not take full advantage of it yet, it is more cost effective to go with a really good graphics card, then upgrade the computer as extra funds become available. I currently run a geforce FX 5900 Ultra in my main machine. Worth every single penny. Give me an idea of your approximate budget and I'll give you a more locked down reccomendation if you like.
