Servers: 40+ servers including a "roleplay preferred" server and four PvP dedicated servers.
Characters: Sixteen classes, I believe. Including various priests, knights, "pet" classes, straight melee, casters, etc. Really, it's getting harder and harder to cleanly divide classes these days. Fourteen races though race doesn't matter too much except cosmetically and for starting stats. Not all races can be all classes.
Role play: Eh. There's the RP server, but other than that, it's a mixed bag. Most servers have some RP guilds you can join but it's not common nor expected.
Experiance: First ten levels are dedicated to teaching you the interface. You have no xp penalties for dying, no corpse runs, etc. After that it starts to slope upwards. Class selection and playstyle has as much to do with xp gain as anything.
Weapon types: One handed slashin, piercing and blunt and two-handed versions of each. Plus archery and throwing. There's a kajillion different weapons -- check out the item lists on the site here.
Templates: Eh? sorry, not familiar with the term in this context
Good places to go at first: Let's wait until you start playing to discuss zones.
Guilds: Many. Many, many. Some are casual, some hard core raiders, most in between.
Lag: System dependant, really. I play fine on a 56k dial up and a mediocre P4 system.
Monsters: Lots, but you'll see repeated "skins" where a rat you saw in the newbie gardens looks a lot like the one in that lvl 40 dungeon. There's plenty of unique monsters as well, but you notice the repeats. Most xp mobs are straightforward, but raid mobs tend to have a lot of quirks.
Cool items: Depends on your definition of "cool", but I'd say a lot. Items that teleport you, allow you to levitate, summon weapons, give enchanced vision, etc etc. EQ really does have a wide array of nifty stuff.
