Enchanter Gear Help PleaseFollow

#1 Mar 15 2004 at 10:49 PM Rating: Decent
I'm an aspiring level 24 Enchanter, who is rather low in the gear department as this is my only character (was gone a year or so, new account). So much has changed, it's hard to know what's good now and what isn't... please read further if you can help.

A level 65 bard friend of mine (who's had his character for years, loads of AA and is a good player who, in his own words, "really doesn't have anything left to buy") has offered to get me new gear granted I make him a simple shopping/hunting list. The only catch is, as far as hunting goes... it needs to be something that a level 65 bard with all "good" AA's and near perfect gear can solo, or quest on his own that won't take too much time. I play a Dark Elf, and hrm... let's see... Oh right, I also want to make sure that I get at least one item of each of the good focus effects for an Enchanter. Gear that has reccomended level isn't too much of a big deal, as it will only umm... give me incentive to level and stuff?

Anyway, anyone who can help... it would be most appreciated. Thanks for your time (Also, most every slot could use upgrading, save range which I have a Cryptkeeper's something stone.. +10 INT?). Bertoxxulous server, thanks again.

Well, I don't know what he can get, but the bazaar is the best place to look things up. Some of the gear in the bazaar couldn't be solo'd by a 65 Bard and required groups or raids to get.

High INT and CHA are important, as important as INT is, CHA is just a little more important in my opinion. At your level a high INT won't give you as much mana as straight mana gear and CHA is used to check for resists on a lot of our control spells and also effect the duration.

More important than how much mana you have is how fast you can get it back! I would tell you to buy the items for the "Earring of the Solstice", or find someone in the bazaar selling all the items and ask them to walk you through the quest. Mana Regen items are hard to get though(the earring being the easiest).

Another good idea is to buy a mount. The benefit of a mount is that you are concidered medding while you are mounted and you don't get the sitting aggro. If you have LoY expansion I recommend a Drogmor over a horse because the Drogmor's head is sloped down out of view where the horse's head is right in the way of your view. The mounts range in price from 9, 35k, 70k, and 104k(Price determines the speed of the mount). The only ones worth it are the 9k and 104k. The 9k is strickly for the med advantage and the 100k for speed and medding. Since you get Illusion Scaled Wolf at lvl 44 you get a SoW type speed from it so the two middle mounts are a waste of cash. The two biggest disadvantages to mounts are their slow starting and stopping speeds, and that they only work in outdoor zones.

I don't know your budget, so I really can't be sure what you can afford to get so I don't what to give specific gear. Keep CHA in mind though, it really is important. In general if an item cost 1K or more, it's probably a better item. Try to keep your eyes open to how much mana, hp's, AC, resists, and STA the items offer(besides the obvious INT and CHA). ALL those stats are important. All those stats also raise the values of the items.

Good luck, I hope I added something to think on. I had quit for well over a year myself so I know exactly where you are coming from.

Well, thanks for the help Kerik... While I'm still a little lost as to what some specific items might be, at least this'll help point me in the right direction. Thing is, my main was an enchanter before I lost my account, but even then I don't think my gear was spectacular... Anyway, if anyone else knows of some specific items that wouldn't be too hard to get, please let me know.

No offense meant but are you simply asking for the
1."best DEF ENC gear for each slot money can buy"
or just for
2. some affordable/easy to hunt upgrades which will be sufficient for your next 10lvls?

Nr. 1. would be easier to answer I guess

A few items I can think of off the top of my head that I think you would benefit from:

Fine Antique Ring - This little beauty will reduce the mana cost of your spells by 10%. You get it via this quest which should be cake for your bard friend to solo, or you can most likely buy the 4 components (all droppable) in bazaar for between 50-100 pp. The ring is good almost to 50 (the focus effect works on spells of lvl 44 and under). This quest is insanely easy to do for such a high-utility item.

Another item which will help you conserve mana is the Batfang Headband. There are other items with extended enhancement II but I felt like the Batfang Headband was best for my chanter. EE II will allow your buffs to last longer, meaning you have to cast them less often. If you prefer one of the other EE II items, go for it. The Batfang Headband can be looted off a mid-30's ogre in West Karana which your bard friend should be able to solo. Dunno how long he will have to camp it, but you might get lucky. You should also be able to pick one up in bazaar fairly cheaply (500pp or so, ballpark), if you choose to go that route.

You might benefit from an item with Spell Haste II, but all that does is make spells cast faster. It won't save mana, but might help get you out of tight situations a bit more easily.

Also you can do the quest to get the Stein of Moggok at your level without much difficulty. That quest is tailor-made for enchanters, just make sure you have all your illusion spells and the Benevolence spell. Might take a few hours to complete but the end result is quite worth it. The Planes of Power expansion made it really easy, otherwise I would invest in a SoW potion or have your bard friend taxi you around, because you will need to cross Norrath once or twice to do it. Or buy it in the bazaar for 200-400pp.

I second the notion on Earring of the Solstice. I am about to pick one up myself for my 43 chanter, and wish I had done so long ago. Should be able to get the 9 components in bazaar for around 4-5k.

If you don't have the research-only spell Mesmerization I would definitely search bazaar for it, get the components (Tasarin's Grimoire pg. 26 left and right)and have someone combine it for you, or work on research skill and do it yourself. This is a REALLY important spell to have in your repertiore.

Other than that, I agree with other posters in this thread. When I look for gear upgrades, I look for a nice mix of INT, CHA, Mana, and HP. Resists are a nice bonus too.

Also, the prices I noted are for Rodcet Nife server. Prices on your server may vary (widely) from what I have quoted.

Oddly enough, I am in the same boat as you and Kerik. I quit for over a year when my chanter was 22. Things sure had changed a lot when I came back. Good luck getting your gear! If I think of anything else I'll come back and post it.
