Breaking FearFollow

#1 Mar 12 2004 at 10:11 AM Rating: Decent
Anyone been to fear since GoD? Heard through the grapevine that the beserker epic mob is at zone in now. I can assemble 2 groups of 61+ characters. Need to get a few epic drops from there. Just wondering if we would be able to break it. Any thoughts/ideas welcome.

I've heard that the Ireblind Imp doesn't have a large aggro range and that he doesn't assist other mobs, so as long as you head sort of northwest instead of due west when you zone in, you should be able to avoid him. You'll pick up more trash mobs that way, but it beats fighting Mr. Ireblind. This is, of course, assuming your standard West Wall break in technique.

Also, and take this with a grain of salt, I've heard that so long as you DoT yourself* (to break his mez) prior to the fight, he's not much of a battle. His biggest asset is catching people unaware and picking them off as mez breaks here and there, and forewarned is forearmed.

Ireblind Imp spawns from a random scareling when it's killed. So, he could end up ANYWHERE in the zone, but will probably be right near the zone in because there are so many scarelings.

His AE is NOT a mezz, it's a stun...dotting yourself won't help. Not sure on his aggro range...but the AE seems to cover a large area. Unless it's been changed since the initial patch (I was in Fear the day after GoD come out if I recall correctly), he stuns you for about 20 seconds, and casts his stun about every 30 seconds. In the meantime, while he has you stunned you lose all aggro from himself and every other mob...they start wandering off....then stun wears off and BAM all those mobs and their friends are coming back at you.

I know that he HAS been killed...we didn't take him down that day though. Not sure if you need high MR, or if there's a specific trick to killing him, or even if he got tweaked since he was first put in. Good luck. =)

Stuns don't lose aggro. Mez's do. I've talked to a couple people who said the Crimson Potion thing worked like a charm for them.

Yeah. If the other mobs lose interest in you, then it was a mez, not a stun. A dot potion should do the trick just fine...

I would think you'd use the same tactics you'd use anytime you do a fear break. Get a FD character or two in there first to spot. That way if Ireblind is up somewhere, you maybe can see him and direct the raid accordingly.

The main issue with Ireblind is that his presense effectively removes the old "run off with agro" tactic which many folks used for faster fear breaks. Your bard will get mezzed and lose his train pretty quickly (again, not sure of AE size, but I've heard it's *really* big). It might still be doable, but it'll be a lot more erratic then that tactic used to be.

It also makes the "nibble" approach a bit harder. If he agros your nibble group, you're going to have problems. But if you can direct them correctly from the zonein, you should be able to avoid problems.

I never liked the "dash and camp" approach anyway, but that's a real deal breaker with this guy now. You'll just never make it...

I still think the bard train approach might still work best. It'll just take a bit longer. Bard zones in and runs concentrically around the portal (north, then west, then south, then east). This should agro everyhing around the portal itself and most of the stuff between the portal and the west wall. He then starts running around in a circle somewhere to the SE of the portal area (but not far enough east to agro any of the minis). The real ***** in this is that a 20 second mez will allow many of the mobs to path back close enough to agro folks going through the portal. You'd need to time your groups carefully to get clear of the train area and to the west wall as quickly as possible. I still think this tactic will work best.

Hmm...maybe the mob WAS "broken" when I was in there then. My guild went in to help another with a CR. We'd heard about the AE by then, so there were a couple people who DoT'd themselves to try to recover from his effect, but they remained stunned (or mezzed, if you will) the entire 20 seconds.

If it truly does work this way, than he's much more doable than I expected. Still annoying as heck, still more powerful than he should be for the zone he's in and the way he spawns...but more manageable than I thought.

Not sure if this is the case with the "dot" to break mez approach, but I remember reading somewhere that the dot must be doing damage and if your regen is stronger then the dot it will not break a mez. Come to think of it this may pertain to PvP...but food for thought.
