Platinum guides....Follow

#1 Mar 11 2004 at 4:37 PM Rating: Good
Im curious, what is up with all these "Make tons of platinum" guides popping up all over the place? These things are selling on the net for $30 and up! Does anyone actually buy these? And if so, would you like to buy mine? hehehe Joking. But seriously, Im surprised that you dont see these guides posted for all to see, because looking at one's "sample" guide that had the Guano Harvester's drops(the Large Soiled bag and the Cloak of Shadows)valued at 3.5kpp each, these guides cant be worth any amount of money. If you look here in Allakhazam's the price reported here for those 2 items gives a much lower estimate. Just something to think about before you plunk down your hard earned real money for one of these.

These guides are aimed for the gullible. But believe it or not there are quite a few gullible players in EQ. From what I have been told most of them are grossly outdated and totally inaccurate. you could get much more accurate and informative info on making plat just by checking a few of your class forums.

just say NO !

these are all outdated crap that didnt work all that well 2 years ago when they were written and are certainly useless now . none of the ones i've seen mention any zones newer than kunark . 20 minutes spent searching for old threads on this board will find you much better info on making plat than all these guides combined .

Free plat guide: Kill guards in HHK and Hill Giants in Rathe Mountains.

Thats all you're need. Theres no secret to making plat in EQ.

You can pay $30 for outdated or commonly know information...

-or-

You can find the very same information, for free, on many, many of the class and EQ related forums on the net. And the best part, most of the info will be up to date.

Avoid plat guides and the such, like the plague, along with levelling guides and class guides.

Never pay for EQ related info, when you can get it for free.

A lot of the guides will have outdated or dubious info, or info which can be easily gained from perusing some popular EQ web sites.

An example would be a fictional guide that was written when GOD came out, which detailed how to make thousands of plat a day by fishing and selling to npcs. Of course, a recent patch nerfed that and the fish only sell for around 8 copper now. So if someone was in a hurry and wrote such a guide, it would be outdated just as a guide which tells you to make toolboxes or wahtever and sell them to an npc is outdated.

Many would tell you obvious things like sell tradeskill supplies to other players, kill hill giants or ice giants, sell certain camp/quested items, buy low and sell high in the bazaar ( a guide telling you this is worthless since you'd have to do some research on prices to first to know what "high" and "low" are.)

All the knowledge in these guides is basically "common knowledge", so its not copyrighted except in the exact form of their guide. That means that you could buy or download several of them and make up your own guide and try to sell that (which has probably happened in the case of several of them.)

To me its like paying for ****; its pointless when nearly all of it is eventually free.
