I'm a gnome, and I was wondering if there is any money to be made in tinkering at later levels, or lower levels for that matter (I'm lvl20)? I can't seem to find much information about tinkering here or casters realm. For instance if it is profitable and some of you recommend skilling it, where can I find some basic recipies (i.e. silks for tailoring) to increase my skill.

Also, I'm a necro, and I've read a few posts that mention researching some research only spells and making a tidy profit off of them. I've made it a habit to keep all of the words I come accross, but what other class's spells can be created via researching words? And where can I find a list of those class's research only spells? And is it worth it to do the concordance quest to up my skill or should I just use training points or...?

One more question, I've been farming silks and making enough plat to buy some descent items and my spells, but are there other tradeskill basic recipie items that have a market at the bazaar?

Any hides you can get ahold off (all qualities) will usually sell.

There are several tradeskill specific sites, ie: EQTraders and Traders corner to name 2. Allmost all tradeskill specific items will sell for something in the bazaar. My Druid forages like crazy and I sell veggies, roots, etc for about a plat apiece in the bazaar. If you plan to do the different tradeskills you definitely need to plan ahead and keep a lot of the items that yu come across. If you have enoug room on your account, it's a good idea to set up a mule (nonplaying character) and fill the bank with the tool boxes that are used for tinkering. They are 10 slot - which lets you store more stuff - and if you do tradeskill you're going to need lots of storage .

The only tinkering I have found to be profitable has been bow cams and geerlocks. During holidays like July 4th, New Years, and Christmas you can sell fireworks for some decent money too.

As far as research goes, just use buy the points from your trainer, you can get all the way to 200 doing this. As it's capped by level its much faster and totals to only a couple kpp.

EB items have really pretty much eliminated what tinkerers made the most money off of. Rebreathers and aqualungs.

Geerloks are pretty widely bought, and high end tinkers can make collapsible ovens, etc..

One of the problems (that SoE seems to be starting to fix) is that a player can run to the bazaar and buy just about any item that is not only better but less costly than a crafted item.

Ahh, forgot about the collapsable items. Those sell real nice too. Takes alot of skill(250), but selling them at a few k each you can really make out like a bandit.

I don't know what collapsable items are. I'm curious though, would you elaborate on your comment about sony beggining to fix that problem?

There is a website for tinkering but I dont have the address at work. Do a google search it should turn up.
Tinkering can be profitable.

The comment about sony fixing the economy is probably a reference to the new tribute system and the Official Casino that takes items and money out of circulation.

If anyone wants to take the time to explain the tribute system, wayfarer adventures, and the Casino, I'd really appreciate it.

Tradeskills are a big hole into which you pour a lot of cash. Sony is actively seeking out any item which you can sell to a merchant for more than the component parts cost to buy and lowering the sell back price.

Can you make money from tradeskills? Yes but only by making the difficult stuff and selling them on to players. This generally involves farming in a high level zone for at least one of the comnponents.

In brief, don't expect to make money from tradeskills, enjoy it as something else to pass the time. When you eventually get to high level and have a decent skill then you should be able to make some interesting items which you might want to sell or keep to use yourself.
