Why Did This Player Act This Way?Follow

Was at the general monster area at the gates of West Freeport and asked into a party with three others, then two had to leave so just one other and myself. I was then asked into another party but felt that it wasn't right to jump parties. I was committed to the first party even if only one left besides myself. I said Thanks nicely and said maybe later to the second party.

As I walked over to sell some stuff, the person who asked me in the second party was not that close but close enough I could see him.

He then messaged that he wanted to fight me to the death. Why? What did I do? Nothing that I know of and why act that way. Did he have some issues about being big kid on the block, or can he inspect me and my stats and loot? I just kept on walking and when safely by the vendor I did a general message using his name asking what that was all about. He never responded.

Frankly, I was very happy with the one left in my first party. Really nice and would run over and cast spells to increase my stats so if anyone ever meets Frokg and I hope I do again, he would be an asset to any party IMHO.

Some people just enjoy duels. A challenge to a duel is not necessarily out of anger...sometimes people just want to test their skills against another player. Some people like to duel when they get bored killing bugs and skeletons. It's also possible that he'd just found out it was possible to duel another player, and was curious to see what it was like.

Don't take a challenge to a fight personally, unless the person is also yelling at you or insulting you.

On the other hand....if you are on a player-vs-player (PvP) server, yes, it's possible he wanted to kill you and loot your stuff. But I don't think you need to /duel someone on a PvP server to fight them.

And yes, players CAN inspect other players to see their gear (though not their stats, to the best of my knowledge). Simply right-clicking on a player will show their gear - though many people consider it rude to do so without asking first.

Harthina is right, I doubt he wanted any more that a bit of fun .. I do like to duel, but only with friends, (always die though i'm not - good at it).

As for the general tell, i take it you mean your uses /occ rather than a direct tell?. He may easily of lost that in his window, especially if he was in a group and fighting.

Don't worry about it .. move on, have fun.

I don't know how long you've been playing, but trust me, alot of stuff happens along that is easily misunderstood :)

Thanks. Have just been playing a few days and this is my first online RPG, actually except for URU Live this is my online experience.

Am level 6 Pal now and venturing out a bit more. Didn't know what to make of it.

To keep up with your new friend, you can add him to your friends list by typing /friend Frokg. Then, if you're looking for something to do you can type /who friend all. If his name comes up you can /tell Frokg want to group up?

When I was just a little NooB rogue I was riding one of the boats around and a high lvl dwarf boarded and challenged me to a duel, I had no idea how duels worked, and did not know that you had to accept it to be vulnurable I was so scared I almost jumped off of the boat and swam for it. He let me babble for a few minutes before he told me he was just teasing me about the duel, and explained to me how they worked.

It was likely harmless that the person wanted to duel (you can't duel unless you accept), I do remember when my daughter first started playing last year as a 3rd level cleric that someone walked up to her and asked her to type /duel and then proceeded to kill her. He later sent her a tell saying that she didnt lose any exp because she was under level 10 but to learn her lesson in not accepting duels from strangers - couldnt get her to play for a couple days after that. People like that exist but just ignore them.

Another possibility along the same lines is that some players under level 10 after maxing out loot will ask to duel in order to be killed (saves them running back to their bind point since at these levels you arrive with gear intact).

Keep in mind too that you never really know who is on the other side of that keyboard typing to you. You may have been challenged by a 9 year-old boy who has watched to many Japanese cartoons and thinks he is a samurai.

For extra added fun in getting challenged to a duel, accept it but be near guards and don't attack first. The one who strikes first gets wasted by the guards. Smiley: sly

I have dueled only once with my lvl 43 warrior it was pretty fun. I was sitting at a wayfareres camp waiting for a group and some guy starts /ooc anyone want to duel im really bored. For about 5 min he did this so I accepted. He told me he was a lvl 39 rogue so I thought wimp. We made the rule first to 20% loses. As soon as i accepted the duel he dissapeared. I had no idea where he went. All of a sudden i get a 90 hp dmg from his back stab. It took me forever to get the hang of not keeping my back facing one way but I finally got him to 20% and me at about 30%. If you play on a server where theres no penalaties to loosing duels do it you might like it. Sorry about the novel just though I might let you know how a duel can sometimes go.

I had a simular experience as a newbie. I was in a group with a more experienced player who had created a new character. I about came unglued when another person in our group challenged me to a duel. I remember telling my friend that I would be mad if he killed me and wanting to get out of there. She calmed me down and told me how duels work. Sometimes we forget that there are some REAL new players out there who don't know how things work.
