Horses v. Lizzies: Looking for practical adviceFollow

#1 Feb 23 2004 at 4:17 PM Rating: Decent
OK, so i have never owned a mount before. I am finally at a point where I can afford to make a low end purchase of one. Can someone tell me whether there is a difference between horses and lizzies and what those differences are?

Also, what am I going to get with the "entry-level" mount as opposed to waiting and buying a more expensive model?

This is for my dwarf-cleric...not sure if there are any class-race benefits to either, but I suspect not.

Look at he 500 other posts please. Although I prefer am lizzy cause the no head thing. I dont mind the swaying from side to side, it is really not as bad as most people think, at least not the slow ones. I sold my horse for a droggy and not have had 1 regret.

Benefits are Medding while effectivly stood up i.e no aggro due to being sat down.

The reason the made droggies is because people complained that the horses head was always in the way, that is the only real difference. But people like the look of horses and if they are adept at thier class can get around the 'Head' problem.

basic horse is purely for the reasons stated above since it is slower than Run 3 speed.

Oh and you can't use them indoors

Like what the others have said, the main reason for going with a Drogmor instead of a horse is because of the horse head in the middle of your screen.

As far as the differences of the different mounts, check this site out. Has some good info about the different ones.

You have a few conflicting issues to way up.

First the extra mana regen you get from a mount is superb and worth every PP you will pay, but it is outdoors only.

Lizard has the big advantage of providing a clearer field of view than a horse (although there are times when you can still target yourself accidentally).

Lizards are very cumbersome, they do not step around very well, take a lot of time to get started and to stop, so when you are trying to loot for instance, you can spend 10 minutes backing up and shuffling around trying to target the corpse. Horses are much more nimble.

At full gallop though lizzies are fine and run up and down hill as easily as running on flat ground. (I believe horses slow down when climbing hills).

The cheapest ones are very slow and are of no use to try to out run any mob that is chasing you.

My preference is for the lizard as it is mana regen that I primarily want and in this case a clear field of view is an important factor.

Celeni has a cheap slow lizard and she simply clicks it off whenever she needs to manouver in any way (she always has SoE up).

The cleric will wait a bit for enough PP and buy an expensive one for both the mana regen and the higher run speed. (Although this is an ego thing, as it would be more effective to simply keep a supply of SoW potions to hand and use the cheapy for mana regen).

Hope this is of some help.

Thanks for the responses, all. Hmmm...my main reason for wanting a mount is to have one...hehe. Not an ego thing as much as an "I have not done that" thing. But I cannot afford anything less than a cheapy.

Thanks for all of the help...at least I know the pros and cons...and thanks for the link to the horses guide on stratics...was a lot of help as well.

For those who told me to read the previous threads...bah. If we answered every re-hashed issue that way, there would be no discussion, just references to old conversations. EQ changes frequently enough for me to want current perspective, even if it happens to be in line with the old perspective...I have no way of knowing that till I receive it.

Thanks all
