I have not played in months because of computer issues. Now that I am back, I find my interest is gone. I want to quit but not delete my items. What would be some good ways to give my items? I don't mind putting some effort into the process but I also don't want it to be more work than fun. 56 Cleric, 30-ish Warrior and several other 10-ish characters, all unguilded and Ykesha was my last expansion. Yes, I know I could just give them to 'you' but hoping for more creative suggestions. Thanks ahead of time.
There are people who will go to a newbie zone and run little 'quests' - rewards are items you want to give away. This might be what you consider too much work, and that's understandable. I find that there isn't anything as rewarding as finding that real new player and giving them 1 piece of gear that they will use for half of their play-life in EQ. Trouble there is it is hard to find the real neophytes when eveyone these days has 7 alts of their level 65 main.
It's hit or miss. Go to the field of bone and try handing out a few items. See how it makes you feel. If it isn't working for you, just cancel your accounts and leave the gear there. Who knows, you might be back in 6 months and they have yet to delete characters or their gear on expired accounts.
The mini quest idea is good, maybe do trivia or something or sit around just watching people, if n00bs are being helpful or struggling help them out a little.
You could just randomly hit newbie areas, give items to mobs there, one every few minutes, and let players kill them to loot said items. I -think- that works, really. The only danger is going to be weapons, I think.
I saw someone before giving away quite a few nice items in GFay. They didn't go quest, but would simply shout "Such-and-Such for the first person to bring me a shotglass!" or some other item easily found on merchants but unlikely to be in your personal possession. Sometimes they'd give a vendor in the case of a perhaps harder to find item ("...to bring me a grapes, found on the brewing merchants"). Anyone, people there seemed to enjoy it and it beat someone just grabbing all your stuff.
Do you remember the tunnel quests? One of my favorites (I never won) was bring the biggest train in, and the "gods" of EQ killed the train and the newb got the reward. There were some big trains.
I'd invite several newbies into a chat channel and ask them to tell you their character's story. Give gear that seems to fit each story best as prizes.
