GoD is Gates of Discord, and is the latest expansion. It's aimed at high level players (and I _really_ mean high-level players). There is, however, a new class, Bersrkers. I've only grouped with one, and they stood near the mobs and hit them.

I might have a slightly cleric-centric view of melee classes. (Stands near the mob and needs regular healing - Tank. Stands near the mob and doesn't - not tank. Stands near the mob and needs too much healing - far too many monks.)

Lost Dungeons of Norrath is the previous expansion. That introduced "adventures" in individual dungeons (basically, a dungeon for your group). I like LDoN, to be honest. I think adventures are fun.

Prior to that, we had Legacy of Ykesha. More high-level zones, a mapping system, dye your armour.

As to what you need...um... Probably, nothing. I don't know what level your characters are, but as a minimum I'd go with Game, Kunark, Velious, Luclin. Planes of Power if you want to go anywhere. LDoN I like, but it's not _required_. GoD is purely optional.

I took a break for about a year from Luclin -> LoY. I like the game more now than I did then. YM, as always, MV.

Coolio!! thanks so much for your response. Im thinking about just starting new, with the best EVIL soloing class/ race combo. Im thinking either an iskar necro or shammy. I know that mayby de make better necros, but mayby a shammy. Whats a better combo In your humble opinion?

In my humble opinion, I have no clue. I don't solo much. I'm a cleric. I don't have an alt above level 10. I sit at the back of parties and wave pom-poms as the big strong tank-types hit things.

Overall, though, pick something you think you'll enjoy, and have fun. It's always the best advice. The game changes so much over time that trying to get "best combos" is possible futile, given that by the time you reach level 55 everything is likely to have changed.

To one ex-addict returning to the game from another, if you are thinking about playing an Evil Solo Class then I HIGHLY recommend the Iksar Necromancer. Our inherent hp regen, coupled with the Necro Lich (hp-to-mana conversion) spell line gives the Iksar Necro much less downtime. Although the DE's start with a higher Int, that's easily recovered through items as you level. Just keep in mind that Iksar are still pretty much hated everywhere (except Cabilis, PoK and Shadowhaven) so you may have to do a LOT of faction work if you want to go anywhere else, and we get a 20% XP penalty. Although I have noticed this time around that leveling goes a LOT faster nowadays then it did when I played before. When I quit EQ it had taken me almost a year to get a character to 35, this time it's taken me 4 months to get the same race/class to 42.

As far as LDON goes, I personally think it's the best thing to ever happen to EQ. Doing missions gives you a short term goal, accumulating points for an item you want gives you a long term goal and while you are in the dungeon you constantly progress through the area without a feeling of endless grindage. Just watch out for those pesky traps, trapped objects and bitten victims, they can turn a good adventure into a long day of corpse recovery really quickly. :-)

That's just my $.02, YMMV. And if you happen to create your toon on the Cazic-Thule server, send me a /tell and I'll be happy to help you with any Iksar or Necro questions.

Happy Hunting!

Thanks all of you!!! The info you provided is great and i thinki will try either an iskar necro or shammy. I guess shammys will have it harder in the end game as far as soloing. Im not sure , any advice?Thoughts? Suggestions on the shammy thing. I also agree that by the time i get this toon up into the 50's , things very well might be totally different....

I agree with everyone above - I love LDoN, but its not necessary. I also like to solo and Ykesha has many good areas for that as well. I just started a Berserker on the new server and that's beengreat fun too.

As for soloing between a necro and shaman - I'd go with necro, but wither is viable. I have a DE necro L54 and a Vah Shir Shaman L46 but for the same levels the necro can solo better. The innate regen of the Iksar should help either class. The biggest advantage to the necro soloing is the stronger pets and feign death. Fast mana regeneration also helps, and the ncros spell line is easier to manage than the shaman's. The shaman gets sow, not a minor consideration. Also for making money sow potions consistently sell well on my server. If you like to group some, shamans are always welcome, and are very useful in LDoN. Necros aren't bad in groups or LDoN, but are not in the same league as any healer class. Necros often siphon mana to the group healer since they regenerate mana faster, and can heal themselves.

Hope this helped and welcome back.

first of all, stamina is more important for a necro than intelligence. the more hp's, the more you can convert to mana. second, using the iksar for the innate regen is good, if you dont want the exp penalty, play an erudite necro, much higher starting int than a gimp *** dark elf. as far as soloing goes, ***** a shaman, necros a million times better. i solo plane of fire mobs on povar, you wont see a shaman doing that. shaman are good soloers up to a pt, but they cant level efficiently after mid to late 50s, not as fast as a necro anyway.

If you're gonna make a necro, there's only one way to go... gnome. The regen isn't as good as a lizzy, but you are less hated. I can walk freely in Erudin, Felwithe and several other "good" cities without the fear of being killed by the NPCs there.

please please please do not listen to this drivel if you are going to make a necro. Int is your friend, Int = mana. Big mana pool = better necro.

Shammies are hugely sort after in groups while a common complaint voiced by necro's is that groups will not take them <I know they are good in groups but not all EQ players are as enlightened as people on this board and think solo class= bad group player.> all in all EQ is biased towards group play and certainly a group of 6 will earn faster xp than 1 solo player in POP.
