Ok I know we have done this before, but I'm not going to look at 41 pages of posts for this thread.

So your wisdom is needed.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a horse/lizard?
Also in your opinion, is it worth the plat?

Thanks

The only advantage, I think, is for casters because you can cast while mounted, but your meditation effect is the same as if you were seated so you are in a constant state of med. They are slow (at least the only ones I could afford). Horses are sold in the bazaar, drogmors in Gunthak harbor (via Stonebrunt). I don't think they are useful for any toon but a caster, but I could be wrong.

they also eat out of your inventory at a high rate of speed, and you cannot use forage or use wolf form while on them. They do have innate safe fall. The lizards have a side to side sway that makes some people seasick but their heads do not block your vision. I found the horse to be unusable due to its giant head. If you want to try a horse there is a quest in befallen that results in a one time use summon horse item.

What happens if my pet is tanking and the mob agros me while I am mounted? Can I fight mounted? Or do I just get off and fight? And what happens to Mr. Ed at that point?

You can fight while on the pet, but you will no longer regen at a sitting rate. You can also unsummon the mount and he will Poof. You will have to resummon him to get him back.

In my humble opion mounts are a waste of money! The only good thing about them is, as stated before, the fact that u can med while moving, and they look pretty cool. However this doesnt warrent the 9+k u have to fork out!!

Another real advantage to having a mount is that you can loot until you're too heavy to move and still your mount will run full speed with you on his back. My lizzy runs +50 level SoW speed (Large Drum) even if I'm 375/120.

No sit agro.

Bought one just for that, worth every plat.

As a L65 Druid, who plays on RZ, I have the Giant Green Drum and I find I use my Lizzy all the time. When ever I am running across a zone, or just travelling in general. And yes, I have Foe on as well. The fastest speed horse / Lizzy is Bard speed. (Giant Drum) I find that when there are KOS in zone, I can get to them, attack and then get out of spell range much easier on my Green Lizzy.
For PVP its hard to get used to controling the animal, but the mana regen and speed makes up for it.

Peeps in my guild have been selling their horses and buying Lizzies because of the better targeting with the Lizzard.

Last point, when you go back to your old hometown, like RV, riding a superfast Lizard, and look upon the level <insert single digit here> they are so shocked, and you are so fast, they don't have time to ask for buffs :)

For a caster I think the biggest advantage is the aggro - I usually group with one other person who plays either a mage or a sk with my druid. I tend to get aggroed due to my DOTs and snare (especially with the pet who doesnt draw aggro as well) - I know about aggro management but breath of ro seems to generate a lot of aggro not to mention the other spells. Without the mount I tend to get a lot of sitting aggro - then I have to get up move back and waste medding time then to heal I have to get up move forward cast and then move back and sit. The mount eliminates a lot of this and has really made a difference in mana regen for me. Due to financial reason (not having a ton of plat) I bought the cheepest one which is pretty slow - however if I am pulling I click it off (always keeping soe on me) pull and then when back to camp summon the mount - since it takes no mana its not a waste and the casting time isnt that bad. Yes a bit of a pain but worth it for the lack of aggro - I can stay with in healing and buffing (sheild of spikes and the like for the sk) range with very little problem. Makes life a little easier - plus they look cool.

Edit - I have a lizard - after trying my friends horse he has on his char I think I like horses better - a smoother ride and the head isnt as bad as you would thinnk - although I think the lizard looks cooler.

Mana regen and aggro management are of course the main benefits. I got a slow horse and love it. As a cleric I primarily use hotkeys, F-keys and /assist to target so the head doesn't bother me much. Also scroling back for an over the shoulder view helps. What really bugs me, though, is the fact you can't duck out of spells. You can move a bit so it interrupts, but that takes too long (especially if you're trying to stop a complete heal!). Also, horse nibbling on my Misty Thicket Picnics is annoying too. But overall, it's a pretty good buy.

Oh yeah, the only thing I don't like about my lizzy is the way I look when the damn thing is running. Looks like a bucking bronco in the rodeo. I just pretend not to notice that I look like a total dork when running my liz.

If you can cast SoW or a movement buffs of good speed, just get the cheapest lizard (9kish), the only other one to get is the 100k mount. You could get either of the two in between but I say either have the best or the worst. For the 30-70k you spend on the middle mounts, just buy SoW potions. I have the 100k mount on my Enchanter and it's REALLY fast, I blow passed everyone except Bards. If you're going places, this is the way to travel. If it's just for medding get the 9k mount.

IMHO All these benefits are FAR outweighed by 2 things that horses and lizards do:

1. It messes up your mouse targetting (a little better on a lizard but not that much).

2. Most importantly, you cannot interrupt your spells (yes you can move and technically interrupt your spells but the casting timer keeps going). Duck doesn't work, jump doesn't work and you cannot use a hotkey while the spell timer is going so you can't hotkey a /dismount /duck /duck. You have to click off your horse buff, then jump or duck, then cast the new spell. I will tell you for a FACT, I need to interrupt a complete heal and cast a fast heal a LOT more often than I go OOM. In situations where I am likely to go OOM, I am also VERY likely to need to interrupt my CH (I am a cleric so I realize that it is far more beneficial for DPS casters).

The difference between the slowest horse and the fastest horse are considerable and it will speed you on your way, but if you just want speed, pay someone for a JBOOTS MQ, it is far more useful and can be used while you are running.

The ability to change spells without sitting (and getting sitting aggro) is very useful but also very situational (you cannot access you cannot access your spellbook on a horse while moving so you can't flee while memming gate).

The no sit medding is useful but the horse eat and drinks many times your normal rate.

I basically only use a horse when I am at an easy camp where I do not have to worry about the 1 or 2 extra seconds it takes to click off the horse. If 1 or 2 seconds makes a difference, then I would rather go LOM or OOM than get sitting med mana recovery.

I already have the cheapest horse (I rarely use it). If they made it possible to interrupt the spell timer while on horseback, I would say that horses (or lizards) are an incredibly good buy, as it is, I figure that the cheapest horse is worth it just to fill up your ammo slot with something that you might actually use one day (stat items don't actually seem to improve your stats in the ammo slot).
