A Ranger....Needs To Become Double HandedFollow

Things were not going well with our hero Rut's. Down at the local mob farming factory there were rumours of the local suppliers, Inconsiderate Greedy Extortionists Inc (IGE) fixing prices for the goods that Rut needed in order to go out and kill the mobs for dosh. Unfortunately the Union that Rut's belonged to, just seemed to sit on their backsides and do nothing about this clear breach of union rules and policy, the Sucker Opportunity Enterprises (SOE). And so Rut's had to increase his workload to make ends meet and keep the ever unhappy "You Promised To Keep Me In The Mannner To Which I Have Become Accustomed" aka, her indoors.

Luckily through taking night classes at the local Oak Tree College of Higher Education, Rut's had learnt the skill of double wield in his 17th season, but was not sure on how to maximise on this.

So again he went forth and offered a prayer to the Great God of Forum's

"What is the best combination of weapons to maximise double wield. I assume it is two 1HS weapons with the greatest efficiency. At the moment I am using a Shaded Blade, and am thinking of buying a Centi Shortsword or if the price was right a Crystallised Blade. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Your bow twanging prancing Rangerboy, Rut's. Amen"

First off, don't restrict yourself to 1HS. Dual wielding is a nice way to keep two skills trained up at the same time. Of course, if your weapons are all 1HS, you may fall into it but this is a nice time to check for cheap 1HB or peircing weapons.

The general rule seems to be up until your 30's(?), best ratio in primary and whatever in secondary. Once you get high enough for your primary DMG bonus to matter, you want your fastest weapon in primary even if the ratio is a little off from your secondary. Reason being that faster weapon = more attacks = more DMG bonus. A 2/10 weapon, for example, would outdamage a 15/30 weapon over time once the DMG bonus kicks in.

Is this true for rogues too? I've always thought that the rule with rogues was highest DMG weapon in primary for bigger BS and lower aggro

My rogue is only like lvl 40, but I've heard the same. Best DMG in primary since you're banking on high damage backstabs.

The rest of them is pretty much like I said. Of course, if you have a 10/20 weapon and a 10/19 weapon and the 10/20 has some super-duper proc or whatever then you might opt to mainhand it. I'm just speaking in generalities.

I have a 4 22 whip and a 7 24 mace that im planning on using in my secondary slot when I reach 17 with my ranger. then when i hit 25 or so my dual wield and weapons skills should be ok.

Untill you main hand damage bonus gets up to around 9 or so, you are best to keep your fastest weapon in your offhand so as to maximise the potetial for an offhand swing. Place your highest ratio weapon in your mainhand to maximise damage.

For the next 25 levels or so a Wurmslayer will be your best mainhand weapon.

A Chrystalised Spider Fang makes for a nice offhand weapon, but there are hundreds to choose from.
