Gay or not Gay?? males playing female toonsFollow

Stereotypical misconceptions by uninformed people make for entertaining reading, but really do nothing to expand understanding for anyone who ventures here.

I am sure that I am not alone in knowing people both male and female, perhaps gay and straight and everything in between, who play multiple gender characters in a game. This is not an indication of one’s sexuality. If anything, it simply indicates a natural curiosity that would not occur in one who was not comfortably centered in their own sexuality. It is important to understand that there are many places where one can be “centered” in their sexuality.

It apparently has not occurred to people that “dressing in woman’s” clothing is usually something done by cross dressing inclined people who statistically maintain heterosexual relationships.

The “incidence of homosexual people adopting the role of the opposite sex is statistically less than that of a heterosexual person”. Fundamentally, that is one factor that defines them as homosexual. Of course the last thing I would want to do is cloud the issue with facts out of a text book.

Translate the psychology into the world of Everquest and the fact is that more straight males play female characters than gay males. This is not surprising at all if you understand what homosexuality means.

What people seem to not realize is that sexuality is based on a scale of degree between heterosexual and homosexual. There are many degrees between in most people. Interestingly, it is the people at the extreme ends of the scale who are more accepting of the people at the opposite end of the scale. It is the ones in between who exhibit conflicted thinking to one degree or another. That is where insecurities and fears, i.e. “intolerance” comes from. Of course environmental factors enter in here as well. It makes for an incredible diversity in people.

You may as well get used to people being different because most people are very different than you are and they.. are “normal” too.

This topic has become an outlet for phobias and I wonder why it is allowed to continue.

Very sorry guys, but I just got through dealing with this sh*t at my college. Fred Phelps'(evil man) people picketed our play The Laramie Project(Matthew Shepard's story) and I dealt with many protesters. I agree very much that we need to STICK TO THE GAME. I apologize for flying off the handle volunteering that information. Anyways, main idea here - HAVE FUN!

Dethsermonk, I'd just like you to know that I know someone who managed to bean Fred Phelpps in the head with a rather heavy frisbee at one of his friendly get togethers.

Fred toppled right over.

The "unknown" frisbee assailant was never caught.

I love that story.

Guys play female toons for one reason, its to take advantage of the morons that will bend over backwards in game to help out or just plain give a female toon gear.It has nothin to do with bein gay or not gay.Has more to do with stupidity of the male players. The girls play male toons just so they dont get idiots sending them tells askin em if they wanna cyber, and again that is becuase of a lot of stupid male players.

Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups.

I play female on Unreal as well which has the added advantage they are more slender and harder to see....

A male playing a female character is likley to me smart not gay... (tho could be both and / or neither)

Would u think i am a high elf becuse i play one?

I don't understand how something like this can be the reason for such a long thread.
This is a game !!!!! Really it is and people choose class/race/gender to have fun. And what does a rolegame make fun?
To be something you are not in RL. The human race in EQ is really .. well senseless?? Why should I play something I am already?
Girls play male chars, to act like a macho, or because male nomes are just cute. Boys play female chars, to act like drama queens and make everyone crazy. ETC ETC ETC.. who cares??
I am female RL and have 2 female chars and a male gnome, a very mean gnome.. he only thinks about sex.. he runs after every girl he meets in EQ, he has different wifes, for every day one, selected by numbers, etc etc, last week he won the Mister Ak'Anon conquest... that is called rolegaming, and not being gay or white or black or big or small or whatever.
Everyone knows that I am female and we all have lots of fun, with my gnome terrorizing all female chars (most are male RL) in guild, they all join this game because it is nothing more.
Yes, we kiss each other, we grab boobies, we look under girls robes.
Maybe we don't have a problem with that, because we know what going on RL and how the thing between man and woman works and don't panic if someone is making fun looking under Dark Elf Girls Robes.... because there are no DE's, they are pixels in a computer game. The boobs are not real, the hair is not real, nothing is real.

The female RL human being behind the sexy DE female, might be an *******, an idiot or whatever. So don't tell me that it really matters if it is a male or a female.

And btw, I wonder how someone is able to make you angry by telling you that you are gay, when you are not. I also don't understand why you you can be angry when you are.

If you are not gay, there is no reason to become angry. Gay does not mean you are a murder, or pervers or whatever. You know that you are not gay, that should be enough.
If you are gay, so what? He said the truth then.. Also no reason to become angry.
Or do you feel ashamed because you are gay?

So this discussion is really useless.

Without reading any of the posts here, mostly because I've subjected myself to this mess before and can guess most of what's already been said...

I'll just ask why it even matters.

I could sit here and mount an argument that any male who plays a male character is gay because they're always looking at a male or picking out dye that makes him look cooler, etc.

No, it's not a strong argument, but I'm sure that any argument about gay males playing females aren't any stronger.

So just leave it alone. You don't have to like it, but it's FAR easier to leave it alone.

Yes, I admit to having 2 female characters. I do this probably out of habit. I have been playing D&D for 24 years and if I am starting a new game and want my character to be espeically challenging, I will chose to make it a female. That's it.

I am a female in RT and usually play a female toon. A very good ingame friend helped me to create a new warrior toon who by friends choice is a very masculine ogre. He's really quite a hunk and thanks to friend has some nice tweaks. I wanted so bad to use his big sword (Lamination) especially to take out some unused aggression my chanter harbors. Anyway while playing my hunk toon I guess I didn't fit the part I was accused of being a wus and a sissy : ( even if I defeated the mobs!!!? So what's this? I guess I didn't growl enough or spew blood? What? Maybe it was that I didn't make obnoxious bodily noises? Wasn't scratching my rear enough? Oh well my point is, hmmm well I really have none except I like playing the hunk because he is, and wouldn't guys like to play us fems for the same reasons? I'm guessing what better way to see us nekkid.
Just a thought. And so what if I'm a sissy I can wup joos.
lol

I have 11 toons. 1 is a female. I am only gay while playing the female. 1/11 = .09. I am only 9% Gay. My wife says that is my sensitive side.

On the subject of Female toons

I am a male, age 42, Captain in the Federal fire department. I can asure you that according to my wife I am quite manly...lol and we have 3 lovely children to show for it.

As a matter of fact I have 4 female characters and 4 male characters. This is a game and we are role playing -- remember?

I think players should play what ever they like.

In paper and pencil RPG games my wife plays a male Barbarian warior -- so what...the key here is to enjoy the game and play what ever you like.

How would you feel if Sony made it so you had to play in gender...not only would it suck but there sure wouldnt be many female characters would there?
