My concern at this point is if the information gets turned off overnight as has happened with some other great EQ sites. There is a ton of info here that is under specific items or quests that isn't always as clear or detailed in some of the newer wiki versions of things. There's also the legacy of the massive playerbase from the early years that was contributing here like mad.
Yeah, my concern too. Frankly, I make posts here as part of a personal memo system so I will be able to find info on some obscure quest, mob or item months later when I need to go back to it. Anything I write down on paper, there's a good chance I'll never find the paper again. Plus I figure if it's useful info for me it's probably useful for some other players so it's win-win. If they ever fold this site the content will probably remain available on the Wayback site (if I understand how it works) but nothing will get added and, yes, we'll need to find a new posting site to keep up with new content and postings. No idea where, though. Beyond EQ's own forums, I know of no active EQ sites. A couple of class sites are fairly active but generally the focus is entirely on the relevant class. EQResource and Magelo are great sites but, again, not sure their forums would serve the purpose, although they might be worth considering, should the need arise. EQR allows comments for their content pages but right now they're not used much at all.
Old-timer that I am, I'm always reminded how active were the forums of one of my old guilds, Shards of Time on Saryrn. I could start a new thread and within hours there'd be dozens of responses, most of them of quality. Most of the guild members regularly visited the site. In fact, I think we made it a requirement to visit every so often or you lost DKP. The idea was that a good guild member kept up with the info posted on the site, particularly strategies and tactics and background for raids and encounters. I don't see anything like this with current guilds, not even serious raiding guilds. And I'm always astonished by large guilds that don't even bother with a website, particularly when it's so easy and cheap to set up a canned website today.
